Jack Willie Lipitoa
Jack Willie Lipitoa (born ) is a Niuean politician and former Member of the Niue Assembly. He is the older brother of former Cabinet Minister Enetama Lipitoa. Lipitoa worked as a teacher, first at Matalave and then at Niue High School. He was first elected to the Niuean Assembly at the 1987 Niuean general election, replacing his brother who had moved to a seat on the common roll. He has been re-elected at every election since. He retired at the 2023 election. Namukulu
Namukulu is one of the fourteen villages of Niue. With a population of 11 (2017 census), it is the smallest village on the island. It has an observation point located close to the Namukulu Cottages The village was established in 1922 by people moving from Tuapa. It celebrated its centenary in 2022. Geography The village is located about 5 kilometres from Alofi, and lies between the villages of Tuapa and Hikutavake Hikutavake is one of the fourteen villages of Niue. Niue
Niue (, ; niu, Niuē) is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, northeast of New Zealand. Niue's land area is about and its population, predominantly Polynesian, was about 1,600 in 2016. Niue Assembly
The Niue Assembly ( niu, Niue Fono Ekepule) is the legislature of Niue. It consists of 20 members; 14 representatives of the villages and 6 elected on a common roll. Members are directly elected by universal suffrage, and serve a three-year term. Niue follows the Westminster system of government, with the Premier elected by the Assembly and the Cabinet drawn from it. History The Assembly is descended from the Island Council established under the Cook Islands Act 1915. This was disbanded in 1959 and reconstituted as the Assembly, which was successively granted greater control. Niue High School
Niue High School (Mata Ki Luga) is a secondary school in Alofi, the capital city of Niue. It is located on the Alofi- Liku Road and, as of 2010, has 175 students in attendance. The school caters for years 7 to 13 (ages 11–18). Within the school is the Paliati Grounds, which reportedly has a capacity of 1,000 and is where Niuean association football teams play. 2023 Niuean General Election
General elections were held in Niue on 29 April 2023. The elections were originally planned to be held early, in late February or early March. Eight new MPs and six women were elected. Following the elections the Assembly elected Dalton Tagelagi as Premier. Electoral system The 20 members of the Assembly are elected by two methods; 14 are elected from single-member consistencies using first-past-the-post voting and six are elected from a single nationwide constituency by multiple non-transferable vote. There are currently no political parties. After the election, the Members of the Assembly elect a Speaker of the Assembly from outside parliament, and a Premier, who must be an MP. The Premier then chooses a Cabinet. In 2023, the candidate nomination fee was increased from NZ$11 to NZ$200. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.". The reverse depicts the New Zealand Coat of Arms surrounded by the inscription "The Queen's Service Medal" and the name of the sub-division either "for Community Service" or "for Public Services". Niue Distinguished Service Cross
The Niue National Awards is a system of orders, decorations and medals to recognise the achievements of, or service by, Niueans. It was established in 2020. Previously Niue had fallen under the New Zealand royal honours system. The awards are decided by the National Awards Committee and announced each year on Constitution Day, 19 October.
