Jack Screeney
Jack Screeney (born 2002) is an Irish hurler who plays for Offaly Championship club Kilcormac–Killoughey and formerly at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. He is a brother of Adam Screeney. Career Born in Kilcormac, County Offaly, Screeny first came to hurling prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilcormac–Killoughey club. He first appeared on the inter-county scene during a two-year stint with the Offaly minor team where on his second year captained the side before later lining out with the under-20 team. Screeney was still eligible for the under-20 grade when he was drafted onto the Offaly senior hurling team and was a substitute on their 2021 Christy Ring Cup-winning team. Kilcormac
Kilcormac () is a small town in County Offaly, Ireland, located on the N52 at its junction with the R437 regional road, between the towns of Tullamore and Birr. It is a small town of 935 people (as of the 2016 census), many of whom were previously employed by Bord na Móna to work the local peat bogs. The town is located near the Slieve Bloom Mountains. The Silver River flows through the town. The town was more commonly referred to as ''Frankford'' prior to Irish independence. History The name Kilcormac comes from the Irish Cill Chormaic meaning Cormac's Church. This name is based on the local patron saint; Cormac Ua Liatháin, a native of Cork, who paid a visit to St Colmcille at the famous monastery he had founded in Durrow in 553 A.D. Adam Screeney
Adam Screeney (born January 2005) is an Irish hurler. At club level he plays with Kilcormac–Killoughey and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. He is a brother of Jack Screeney. Career Screeney first played hurling to a high standard as a student at Coláiste Naomh Cormac. He scored 2-13 when the school team beat Hamilton High School to claim the All-Ireland PPS SBHC title in 2023. Screeney's performances for the school resulted in his inclusion on the combined Offaly Schools team which also won the Leinster PPS SAHC in 2023. He has also lined out for the University of Limerick. After progressing through the juvenile and underage ranks with the Kilcormac–Killoughey club, Screeney made his senior team debut in 2023. He ended the season with an Offaly SHC medal, while he was also the team's top scorer at county and provincial levels with 2-56. Charlie Mitchell (hurler)
Charlie Mitchell (born 30 November 2003) is an Irish hurler. At club level he plays with Kilcormac-Killoughey, and has also lined out at inter-county level with various Offaly teams. Career Mitchell first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilcormac-Killoughey. After winning an Offaly MHC title in 2019, he later joined the club's senior team. Mitchell came on as a substitute when Kilcormac-Killoughey were beaten by Shinrone in the 2022 SHC final. Mitchell first appeared on the inter-county scene with Offaly during a two-year tenure with the minor team. He later spent three seasons with the under-20 team and captained them to a defeat by Cork in the 2023 All-Ireland under-20 final. By that stage, Mitchell had already appeared with the senior team after making his debut in the 2023 National League. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. 2023 Offaly Senior Hurling Championship
The 2023 Offaly Senior Hurling Championship was the 126th staging of the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Offaly County Board in 1896. The draw for the group stage placings was made on 20 March 2023. The championship ran from 7 July to 15 October 2023. Shinrone entered the championship as the defending champions. The final was played on 15 October 2023 at Grant Heating St Brendan's Park in Birr, between Kilcormac–Killoughey and Shinrone, in what was their second consecutive meeting in the final. Kilcormac–Killoughey won the match by 3–26 to 3–08 to claim their fifth championship title overall and a first title in six years. 2021 Christy Ring Cup
The 2021 Christy Ring Cup was the 17th staging of the Christy Ring Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The cup began on 26 June 2021 and ended on 1 August 2021. The final was played on 1 August 2021 at Croke Park in Dublin, between Offaly and Derry, in what was their first ever meeting in a final. Offaly won the match by 0-41 to 2-14 to claim their first ever cup title. Offaly's Eoghan Cahill was the Ring Cup's top scorer with 0-36. Offaly Senior Hurling Team
The Offaly county hurling team represents Offaly in hurling and is governed by Offaly GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Joe McDonagh Cup and the National Hurling League. Offaly's home ground is O'Connor Park, Tullamore. The team's manager is Johnny Kelly. The team last won the Leinster Senior Championship in 1995, the All-Ireland Senior Championship in 1998 and the National League in 1991. The Offaly Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Molloy Environmental Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Offaly GAA clubs. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root.
