Jack Prescott
Jack Prescott (c.1880–1959) was an early American silent film actor and director. Prescott starred in 19 films as an actor, between the end of 1914 and 1918, working with actors such as Charlotte Burton in films such as '' The Thoroughbred'' (1916). He also directed five short silent films in 1916 and retired from film in 1918. Prescott directed the films '' The Man Who Would Not Die'' and ''The Strength of Donald McKenzie'' in 1916. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Charlotte Burton
Charlotte E. Burton (May 30, 1881 – March 28, 1942) was an American silent film actress. Career Born in San Francisco, Burton was signed by the American Film Manufacturing Company in 1912 where she worked for several years. She joined Essanay Studios which she sued in 1919 for $25,000 for breach of contract. She originally signed with the company believing she would be acting in mostly drama film but she was cast in mostly comedy films. Her salary had been $200 a week with an option for her services at the rate of $300 a week for a second year. Charlotte claimed that she was signed by Essanay business manager, Vernon R. Day, to a contract extending from November 1916 until November 1918. She was discharged without reason. When Burton came to the Chicago, studio she refused a role offered her in a Black Cat comedy, presented to her by Essanay president George K. Spoor. She declined because she was not a comedian. ''The Man Who Would Not Die'' is a 1916 silent era feature length drama motion picture starring William Russell, Charlotte Burton, Harry Keenan, and Leona Hutton. Directed by William Russell and Jack Prescott and produced by Samuel S. Hutchinson, the screenplay was adapted by J. Edward Hungerford from a story by Mabel Condon. This five- reel feature was produced at the American Film Company's Flying "A" Studios in Santa Barbara. It was released on August 31, 1916, and distributed by the Mutual Film Corporation. ''Martyrs of the Alamo'' (also known as ''The Birth of Texas'') is a 1915 American historical war drama film written and directed by Christy Cabanne. The film is based on the historical novel of the same name by Theodosia Harris, and features an ensemble cast including Sam De Grasse, Douglas Fairbanks, Walter Long and Alfred Paget. Fairbanks role was uncredited, and was his first role in film, although his first starring role, in '' The Lamb'', was released prior to this picture.
