Jack Michael Martínez
Jack Michael Martínez (born October 12, 1981) is a Dominican former professional basketball player. High school career Jack Martinez attended Artesia High School (Lakewood, California), Artesia High School in Lakewood, California, playing alongside Jason Kapono and Jón Arnór Stefánsson. It later emerged he and other foreign players on the team had been illegally recruited by coach Wayne Merino. Professional career Martinez's career took him to Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Italy where he was the Lega Basket Serie A top rebounder in 2006, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. National team career Martínez made his debut for the Dominican Republic national basketball team in 2001. He was named MVP at the 2004 Centrobasket in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where his team claimed the gold medal by defeating Puerto Rico in the final. Centrobasket
The Centrobasket is a FIBA-sponsored international basketball tournament where national teams from Central America and the Caribbean participate. These countries make up the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA). The top three or four Women's National teams typically earn berths to the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, from which they can qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup or Summer Olympics. Teams qualify for these tournaments by finishing high (usually first or second place) in the previous Centrobasket or by placing high at the FIBA COCABA Championship for Mexico and the seven Central American countries and at the FIBA CBC Championship for the 23 Caribbean countries. 2011 FIBA Americas Championship
The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, in London. This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from August 30 to September 11, 2011. Argentina won the title, defeating Brazil, 80–75, in the final match. This was the country's second AmeriCup championship. Host FIBA Americas named Mar del Plata, Argentina the host of the 2011 competition on May 24, 2010 at a meeting in San Juan. Games were played at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, which seats more than 8,000 fans. Toronto and Rio de Janeiro also bid for the tournament before FIBA awarded the competition to then world number-one ranked Argentina. The FIBA AmeriCup (previously known as the FIBA Americas Championship) is the Americas Basketball Championship that takes place every four years between national teams of the Western Hemisphere continents. Since FIBA organized the entire Western Hemisphere west of the Atlantic Ocean under one zone, countries from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. Through the 2015 edition, the Americas Championship took place every two years, and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA World Cup and the Basketball at the Summer Olympics, Summer Olympic Games.
