Jack Geggie
Jack Geggie (29 October 1881 – 20 January 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Although he started his career at Victorian Football Association (VFA) club North Melbourne as a forward and follower, Geggie was used as a defender during his time with Essendon. He appeared as a full-back in the 1902 VFL Grand Final, when Essendon was comprehensively defeated by Collingwood. The following two seasons, he represented the league at interstate football. Oakleigh Football Club
Oakleigh Football Club, nicknamed the Devils, was an Australian rules football club from Oakleigh which played in the VFA from 1929 until 1994. Oakleigh wore purple guernseys with a gold monogram thus giving them their original nickname the Purple and Golds. History The club was formed in 1891 and after having success in the Melbourne Districts Association (premierships in 1907, 1924, & 1928), they were one of two teams admitted into the VFA in 1929, the other being Sandringham. With former Essendon star player and coach, and future Fitzroy and Carlton coach Frank Maher in charge they won a premiership in just their second season with a 9-point win over Northcote in a very spiteful game, 9.6 (60) to 7.9 (51). Glen Iris is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Boroondara and Stonnington local government areas. Glen Iris recorded a population of 26,131 at the 2021 census. Glen Iris has been Melbourne's geographical centre of population since the 1990s. History Captain Thomas Henderson, of the Royal Navy, arrived in Melbourne on a ship called ''Iris'' in 1850.
