Jack Gargan (hurler)
John Gargan (8 November 1918 – 1991) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny and Dublin senior teams. Gargan made his first appearance for the Kilkenny team during the 1939 championship and was a regular on the inter-county scene until his retirement from Dublin after the 1947 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal and four Leinster medals. At club level Gargan enjoyed successful spells with Éire Óg and Faughs. Éire Óg GAA (Kilkenny)
Éire Óg GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was almost solely concerned with the game of hurling. History The Éire Óg club was founded in Kilkenny CBS in 1931. Initially adopting blue and white colours and called Young Irelands, the club quickly became Éire Óg and changed to green and white. The club first came to hurling prominence by winning five Kilkenny MAHC titles in six seasons between 1932 and 1937. A number of these schoolboy players from this grade went on to form the nucleus of the club's adult team over the following decade. After winning the Kilkenny JHC title in 1936, Éire Óg secured promotion to the top tier of Kilkenny hurling by claiming the Kilkenny IHC title the following year. The club went on to appear in seven county finals between 1938 and 1950, with victories coming on four occasions. Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, usually held on the first Sunday in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Bob O'Keeffe Cup. Faughs GAA Club ( ga, CLG Fág an Bealach) is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) hurling and camogie club in Templeogue, Dublin, Ireland. They have won 31 titles. History Faughs GAA Club was founded in Easter 1885, "under the big tree" in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Its inaugural meeting was held at 4 Gardiner's Row, home of Michael Cusack (now the Dergvale Hotel). Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. Frank Cogan
Matthew Francis Cogan (born 15 June 1944), known as Frank Cogan, is an Irish former Gaelic football coach and player. At club level he played with Nemo Rangers and was a member of and later coached the Cork senior football team. Cogan usually lined out as a defender. Playing career Cogan first came to Gaelic football prominence as a schoolboy at Coláiste Chríost Rí before later winning a Sigerson Cup title with University College Cork in 1966. He had earlier won the first of seven County Championship medals with the college; the other six were claimed with the Nemo Rangers club, with whom he also won three All-Ireland Club Championship titles. Cogan first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork minor team that won the county's inaugural All-Ireland Minor Championship title in 1961.
