West Hartlepool
West Hartlepool was a predecessor of Hartlepool, County Durham, England. It developed in the Victorian era and took the name from its western position in the parish of what is now known as the Headland. The former town was originally formed in 1848 as an accompanying settlement for nearby railway and docks, which brought and exported coal from the area. The rail network grew, connecting to docks in Leeds and other cities. Further developments in the area led to the 1960s formation of Hartlepool as a town. Ted Sagar
Edward Sagar (7 February 1910 – 16 October 1986) was an English footballer who played for Everton and England. He was a goalkeeper who joined Everton as an apprentice in 1929 after playing for Thorne Colliery in Yorkshire and made his debut in 1930. He played in the championship winning sides of 1931–32 and 1938–39 and the FA Cup winning side of 1933. He made 499 appearances for Everton; this goalkeeping record for the club was only beaten by Neville Southall in 1994. He retired from playing in 1952 and ran a pub in Aintree Aintree is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England. Jock Leckie
John Thompson Leckie (3 March 1906 — 1977) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Leckie played for Alva Albion, Alloa Athletic, St Johnstone, Raith Rovers and Bray Unknowns before moving down to England to sign with Port Vale in March 1932. He picked up an injury in only his second game in 1931–32, and was sidelined until the start of his second season at The Old Recreation Ground. During that season he had a period from November 1932 to February 1933 as second choice keeper behind previous favourite Ben Davies, though in March he was injured once more, and Leckie played 22 games. He left on a free transfer by May 1933 and moved on to Stockport County in 1933–34, dropping down to the Third Division North from the Second Division. He was then Cardiff City's first team goalkeeper in 1934–35, as the Welsh club struggled near the bottom of the Third Division South. George Poland
George Poland (21 September 1913 – 6 October 1988) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. During his career, he made over 50 appearances in the Football League during spells with Cardiff City and Wrexham and won two caps for Wales in 1939. His career was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II which began just after he was signed by First Division side Liverpool meaning he never played for the side. During wartime, he also gained four international caps for Wales. Career Born in Penarth, Cardiff, Poland began his career playing as a forward with local amateur sides Cogan and Penarth Mission where his performances attracted the attention of Third Division South side Swindon Town who offered him a trial.
