Jack Arnold (born John Arnold Waks; October 14, 1916 – March 17, 1992) was an American actor and film and television director, best known as one of the leading filmmakers of 1950s science fiction films. His most notable films are '' It Came from Outer Space'' (1953), ''Creature from the Black Lagoon'' (1954), '' Tarantula'' (1955), and '' The Incredible Shrinking Man'' (1957). Jack Arnold (born ) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership. Playing career Arnold played for the Western Suburbs Magpies, Western Suburbs (making his debut in the 1936 NSWRFL season, 1936 season as the second youngest debutant in rugby league history at 16 years of age), and Sydney Roosters, Eastern Suburbs during his career. He had just the one season at Wests before joining Eastern Suburbs in NSWRFL season 1938, 1938 where he played over 10 matches, remaining there until his retirement in 1949. Daniel Joseph Lauria (born April 12, 1947) is an American actor, known for playing the role of Jack Arnold in ''The Wonder Years'' (1988–1993), Jack Sullivan on '' Sullivan and Son'' (2012–2014), and Al Luongo on '' Pitch'' (2016–2017). Early life Lauria, an Italian-American, was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Carmela (née Luongo) and Joseph J. Lauria. He also lived in Lindenhurst, New York. He graduated from Lindenhurst Senior High School in 1965 as a varsity football player, and he briefly taught physical education at Lindenhurst High School. A Vietnam War veteran, Lauria served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps; he served at the same point in his life that Jack Arnold, his character in ''The Wonder Years'', did during the Korean War.
