Jacek Bielczyk
Jacek Bielczyk (born 23 February 1953) is a Polish chess International Master (1979). Biography At the beginning of the 1970s, Jacek Bielczyk was the leading junior of the country, twice (in 1971 and 1972) winning the Polish Junior Chess Championship in U20 age group, and in 1973 - the title of vice-champion. In 1972–1973, he represented Poland at the European Junior Chess Championships in Groningen. In 1973 he won the junior chess tournament in Warsaw. He made his senior debut in the Polish Chess Championship final in 1975, taking 5th place in Poznań. In total, in the years 1975–1983, he took part in the final tournaments for the national championship nine times, achieving the best result in Zielona Góra in the 1982, when he took the 4th place. He is a three-time medalist of the Polish Blitz Chess Championship: silver (1975) and 2 bronze (1979, 1987). Siemianowice Śląskie also known as Siemianowice (; german: Siemianowitz-Laurahütte; szl, Siymianowice) is a city in Upper Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice, in its central district in the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union - a metropolis with a population of 2 million people and is located in the Silesian Highlands, on the Brynica river (tributary of the Vistula). Swiss-system Tournament
A Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format that features a fixed number of rounds of competition, but considerably fewer than for a round-robin tournament; thus each competitor (team or individual) does not play all the other competitors. Polish Chess Federation
The Polish Chess Federation (Polski Związek Szachowy, PZSzach) was created on 11 April 1926 in Warsaw. Józef Żabiński was the first chairman. The initial statute outlined the fundamental objectives of the association including amongst others the popularisation of the game of chess and general organization of the chess movement in Poland, representation outside the country, coordination of the activities of clubs and regional associations as well as organization of individual and team tournaments and championships (in different age categories). Elo Rating System
The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in zero-sum games such as chess. It is named after its creator Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-American physics professor. The Elo system was invented as an improved chess-rating system over the previously used Harkness system, but is also used as a rating system in association football, American football, baseball, basketball, pool, table tennis, and various board games and esports. The difference in the ratings between two players serves as a predictor of the outcome of a match. Two players with equal ratings who play against each other are expected to score an equal number of wins. A player whose rating is 100 points greater than their opponent's is expected to score 64%; if the difference is 200 points, then the expected score for the stronger player is 76%.
