''Jaari'' ( ne, जारी) is a 2023 Nepali film written and directed by Upendra Subba under the banner of Baasuri Films. It is produced by Ram Babu Gurung. Released on April 14, 2023, the film stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Prem Subba, Bijay Baral, Roydeep Shrestha, and Rekha Limbu. The film is based on Limbu community and their Jaari tradition, which was historically one of the most significant part of their culture; the Jaari tradition was also relevant in many other communities of Nepal. The film opened with critical acclaim, with praise directed towards debutant director Subba's work. It was a record breaking blockbuster at the box office and enjoyed more than 100 days run in the theatres all over Nepal. At the end of it's run, it became third highest grossing films in Nepal of all time with the gross of 17.18 Crore. Upendra Subba
Upendra Bahadur Angdembe who is known as Upendra Subba ( ne, उपेन्द्र सुब्बा) is a Nepali poet, lyricist, writer, and film director. He is one of the initiators of the movement called '' Srijanshil Arajakta'' (Creative Anarchy) along with Rajan Mukarung and Hangyug Agyat. Early life Subba was born in Angsarang-8, Panchthar, an eastern hilly district. His birth name was Upendra Bahadur Angdembe. In 1997, he moved to Kathmandu city from Damak to become a songwriter. His songwriting had started to see success with music composed by Shantiram Rai. His songs were sung by Deep Shrestha, Robin Sharma, Ananda Karki, Yam Baral and won some competitions. He became convinced that song recording was expensive and that the music industry was heading towards the directions unlike his taste. Online Khabar is an independent private online news portal of Nepal established in 2006, providing news in Nepali and English languages. There is no print available from this media house. The Nepalese film industry is relatively young.
