Jaak Van Wijck
Jacobus Johannes Wilhelmus "Jaak" van Wijck (September 11, 1870 in Ginneken, Netherlands – June 3, 1946 in Antwerp, Belgium) was a Dutch landscape Painting, painter. He was known for his paintings of locations on the Kalmthoutse Heide (De Kempen) close to Antwerp, and also at Ginneken, a village close to Breda, where he painted the river Mark (Dintel), De Mark along with other landmarks. As a student of the "Stedelijk Tekeninstituut", located in the city Breda, he received several awards. More later, on the "Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), Koninklijke Academie voor Schoone Kunsten" in Antwerp and the "Hooger Gesticht" there, he was notable again by winning prizes, e.g. in 1895, when he was awarded with two particular medals "on behalf of Léopold II Roi des Belges". In 1903, shortly after his studies in Breda, he showed his work at the famous "Salon Triennal des Beaux-Arts" in Brussels. He also displayed his art in several salons in Antwerp. Ginneken en Bavel was a municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant, located southeast of the city of Breda. It covered the villages of Ginneken (now a neighbourhood of Breda) and Bavel. Mark (Dintel)
The Mark () is a river in Belgium and the Netherlands. Characteristics The Mark rises north of Turnhout, Belgium, in the municipality of Merksplas. It passes through Hoogstraten before crossing the border with the Netherlands. In the city centre of Breda it receives its main tributary Aa of Weerijs. Below Oudenbosch the Mark is known under the name Dintel. The Dintel flows into the Volkerak (part of the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta) at Dintelsas. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp ( nl, Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen) is an art academy located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1663 by David Teniers the Younger, painter to the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm and Don Juan of Austria. Teniers was master of the Guild of St Luke—which embraced arts and some handicrafts—and petitioned Philip IV of Spain, then master of the Spanish Netherlands, to grant a royal charter to establish a Fine Arts Academy in Antwerp.
