J. Meirion Lloyd
John Meirion Lloyd (Corris, Merionethshire 4 May 1913 - Prestatyn, 30 September 1998) was a Welsh Presbyterian missionary in Mizoram, India. He was ordained a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Wales 1941, and followed in the tradition of his countryman in Mizoram David Evan Jones (missionary). He was head of the team responsible for the Bible translation into the Mizo language in 1955. Corris
Corris is a village in the county of Gwynedd, Wales, about north of the town of Machynlleth. The village lies on the west bank of the Afon Dulas (which here forms the boundary with Powys), around that river's confluence with the Afon Deri. Its railway station is the headquarters and museum of the Corris Railway, a preserved narrow gauge railway. The area has a community council. The community council system replaced the former parish council system and tackles local issues, acts as a contact point between local government and residents for information and resources on various issues. The community elects one member to represent Corris/Mawddwy ward of Gwynedd Council. Prestatyn
Prestatyn is a seaside town and community in Denbighshire, Wales. Historically a part of Flintshire, it is located on the Irish Sea coast, to the east of Rhyl. Prestatyn has a population of 19,085, History Prehistory There is evidence that the current town location has been occupied since prehistoric times. Prehistoric tools found in the caves of Graig Fawr, in the nearby village of Meliden, have revealed the existence of early human habitation in the area. Mizoram
Mizoram () is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The name of the state is derived from "Mizo people, Mizo", the endonym, self-described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos". Within India's northeast region, it is the southernmost landlocked state, sharing borders with three of the Seven Sister States, namely Tripura, Assam and Manipur. The state also shares a border with the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar. Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. David Evan Jones (missionary)
David Evan Jones, Mizo name Zosaphluia (15 February 1870 – 10 August 1947) was a Welsh missionary in Mizoram, India, connected to both the Mizoram Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church of Mizoram. Jones was born at Brynmelyn, Llandderfel. educated at Bala Grammar School, then the Liverpool Institute, Bala College and the Presbyterian United Theological College, Aberystwyth. He was pastor of a church in Bettws, Montgomery, for two years before being formally ordained into the English Baptists in 1897 prior to sailing for India on 26 June 1897. He arrived at Aizawl, in the Lushai Hills, two months later on 31 August. While in the Lushai Hills area, he spent Christmas in the hamlet of Pukpui, and stayed there for Christmas. Mizo Language
The Mizo language, or ''Mizo ṭawng'', is a Kuki-Chin-Mizo language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, spoken natively by the Mizo people in the Mizoram state of India and Chin State in Myanmar. The language is also known as Duhlian and Lushai, a colonial term, as the Duhlian people were the first among the Mizos to be encountered by the British in the course of their colonial expansion. The Mizo language is mainly based on Lusei dialect but it has also derived many words from its surrounding Mizo sub-tribes and sub-clan. Now, Mizo language or ''Mizo ṭawng'' is the ''lingua franca'' of Mizoram and its surrounding areas and to a lesser extent of Myanmar and Bangladesh and in India in some parts of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. Mizoram Presbyterian Church
Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod (''Mizoram Presbyterian Kohhran Synod'' in Mizo) is the largest Christian denomination in Mizoram, northeast India. It was a direct progeny of the Calvinistic Methodist Church (officially named the Presbyterian Church of Wales in 1928) in Wales. It was the first church in Mizoram and is now one of the constituent bodies of a larger denomination Presbyterian Church of India (PCI), which has its headquarters in Shillong, Meghalaya. The administrative body called the Mizoram Synod has its headquarters at Mission Veng, Aizawl. As the first church, it remains the largest denomination in Mizoram. Translation is the communication of the meaning of a source-language text by means of an equivalent target-language text.
