J. Barry Mahool
John Barry Mahool (September 14, 1870 – July 29, 1935) was the Mayor of Baltimore from 1907 to 1911. Biography Mahool was born in Phoenix, Maryland on September 14, 1870. He became the Democratic nominee for Baltimore mayor in April 1907, defeating opponents John Charles Linthicum and George Stewart Brown. In May 1907, he defeated incumbent Republican mayor E. Clay Timanus.(May 8, 1907)Baltimore Goes Democratic ''The New York Times'' In 1910, Mahool signed city ordinance No. 610 prohibiting African-Americans from moving onto blocks where whites were the majority, and vice versa. Mahool had been an advocate for social justice, championing causes such as woman's suffrage, but the ordinance came in response to an uproar after George W. F. McMechen, an African-American Yale law school graduate, moved into a rich (white) neighborhood. Phoenix is an unincorporated community located in Baltimore County in the State of Maryland, United States. It is located at latitude 39°30'59" North, longitude 76°36'59" West. The United States Postal Service has assigned Phoenix the ZIP code 21131. Part of the area is also known as Jacksonville, although Jacksonville was once a separate community to the east. Hunt Valley Golf Club, a 36-hole private golf course, is located in Phoenix. The NCR Trail also runs through Phoenix, which hosts one of the rail trail's major parking lots. John Charles Linthicum
John Charles Linthicum (November 26, 1867–October 5, 1932) was a U.S. Congressman from the 4th Congressional district of Maryland, serving from 1911 to 1932. Biography Linthicum was born on 26 November 1867 near Baltimore, Maryland, in the locality now known as Linthicum Heights, Anne Arundel County, the son of Sweetser Linthicum Sr. (1824–1905) and Laura Ellen Smith (1829–1910). He and his many siblings attended the public schools of Anne Arundel County and Baltimore. He graduated from the Maryland State Normal School in Baltimore in 1886, and became principal of the Braddock School in Frederick County, Maryland, in 1887.
