J.V. Wilson
James Vernon "Pinky" Wilson (12 February 1897 – 3 July 1980) was an American soldier who is known for being the author of the " Aggie War Hymn", which is the de facto fight song of Texas A&M University. He was born in Florence, Texas, in 1897. Wilson enrolled at Texas A&M in 1915, when the First World War was just in its first years. By the time he was junior, the United States entered the war and he joined the United States Marine Corps and was sent to the frontlines in France in 1917. It was there where he wrote the now famous war hymn, specifically during a battle when he wrote phrases from a number of school yells on the back of a letter while waiting for orders from his commander. In the months that followed, the war came to an end and Wilson completed the song, singing it with his fellow marines while stationed in Germany. College Station is a city in Brazos County, Texas, situated in East-Central Texas in the heart of the Brazos Valley, towards the eastern edge of the region known as the Texas Triangle. Baylor University
Baylor University is a private Baptist Christian research university in Waco, Texas. Baylor was chartered in 1845 by the last Congress of the Republic of Texas. Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band
The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band (also known as the Noble Men of Kyle Field, Kyle or just the Aggie Band) is the official marching band of Texas A&M University. Composed of over 400 men and women from the school's Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets, Corps of Cadets, it is the largest military band, military marching band in the world. The band's complex straight-line marching maneuvers are performed exclusively to American march music, traditional marches. Since its inception in 1894, its members eat together, sleep in the same dormitory, dormitories, and practice up to forty hours per week on top of a full academic schedule. Aggie Yell Leaders
The Aggie Yell Leaders are a group of Texas A&M University students that lead Aggie fans in a series of "yells" during athletic events or other school events. The Yell Leaders are composed of five students (three seniors and two juniors) who are elected annually by popular vote of the student body. The Yell Leaders use a variety of hand signals, called "pass-backs," to direct and intensify the crowds. Notable former Aggie Yell Leaders include former Texas Governor and Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, trauma surgeon Dr. Red Duke and Texas State Representative Trent Ashby. Fight Song
A fight song is a rousing short song associated with a sports team. The term is most common in the United States and Canada.
