J.B. Machator was the Presiding Member of the Nkwanta District in the Volta Region of Ghana from 1998 till his death on 20 February 2006. Nkwanta District
Nkwanta District is a former district that was located in Volta Region (now currently in Oti Region), Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989. However on 29 February 2008, it was split off into two new districts: Nkwanta South District (which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 14 November 2017 (effectively 15 March 2018); capital: Nkwanta) and Nkwanta North District (capital: Kpassa). Volta Region
Volta Region (or Volta) is one of Ghana's sixteen administrative regions, with Ho designated as its capital. It is located west of Republic of Togo and to the east of Lake Volta. Divided into 25 administrative districts, the region is multi-ethnic and multilingual, including groups such as the Ewe, the Guan, and the Akan peoples. The Guan peoples include the Lolobi, Likpe, Akpafu, Buem, and Nkonya (now part of Oti region) people. This region was carved out of the Volta Region in December 2018 by the New Patriotic Party. Background The Volta region was formed by the state union of the former British Togoland which was part of the German protectorate of Togoland.
