Israeli Air Force Flight Academy
The Israeli Air Force Flight Academy trains aircrew to operate Israeli Air Force aircraft, qualifying fighter, helicopter and transport pilots as well as combat and transport navigators. The IAF flight course is considered one of the most prestigious courses in the IDF. It lasts for three years and is held largely in the Hatzerim Airbase near Beer Sheva. Graduates of the course receive the rank of lieutenant and a BA from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. After their training, the graduates must undertake mandatory military service of seven years. On average, only one out of nine students completes the course successfully. Hatzerim ( he, חֲצֵרִים, ''lit.'' Farmyards) is a kibbutz located 8 kilometers west of Beersheba in the Negev desert in Israel. It is named after the Bible (Deuteronomy 2:23), mentioning a site nearby: "the Avvites who lived in farmyards as far as Gaza". It belongs to the Bnei Shimon Regional Council. Roni Zuckerman (born 1981) is an Israeli who served as the first female jet fighter pilot for the Israeli Air Force. Biography Roni Zuckerman was born and raised on kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot ("the Ghetto Fighters' kibbutz"), located near Haifa. Her father Shimon was an electrical engineer and her mother Mati was a doctor of genetic engineering. She is the granddaughter of Zivia Lubetkin and Yitzhak Zuckerman (also known as Icchak Cukierman), who were among the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during World War II and among the 34 fighters who survived.
