Israeli Air Force Band
The Israeli Air Force Band (IAF Band) ( he, להקת חיל האוויר) is the principal musical ensemble of the Israeli Air Force, a service branch of the Israel Defense Force (IDF). History The Israeli Air Force Band was established in May 1948. It was directed by Erich Tych, who held the position for 35 years, until his death in 1983. Under Tych, the band was similar in style to Big bands and jazz bands. The band is currently composed of a number of ensembles that play different genres such as ethnic music, jazz, and rock and roll. Notable members *Ania Bukstein – Russian-Israeli actress, singer-songwriter, and pianist. Shai Gabso ( he, שי גבסו; July 20, 1984) is an Israeli singer. He won third place in the first season of '' Kokhav Nolad'' ("A Star is Born"). Gabso was born in Rishon Lezion to a Tunisian-Jewish family. A ''hazzan'' (; , lit. Hazan) or ''chazzan'' ( he, חַזָּן , plural ; Yiddish ''khazn''; Ladino ''Hasan'') is a Jewish musician or precentor trained in the vocal arts who helps lead the congregation in songful prayer. In English, this prayer leader is often referred to as a cantor, a term also used in Christianity. Udi Spielman
Ehud (Udi) Spielman (Hebrew: אהוד (אודי) שפילמן) (born on December 4, 1951) is an Israeli singer and Hazzan. He came to Chazzanut (Cantorial music) after a long career as a singer and performer in Israel. He has published several CDs and DVDs and his music is featured in the Florida Atlantic University Judaica Sound Archives and will soon also be in the Dartmouth Jewish Sound Archives. Early life Udi Spielman was born in 1951 in Tel-Aviv. He is the great-grandson of Zerach Barnett, a Zionist activist, settling first Petah Tikva and the initiator and founder of Neve Shalom Tel-Aviv. Both of Spielman's grandfathers were cantors. Spielman studied at HaKfar HaYarok, an agricultural high school. ''Kokhav Nolad'' ( he, כוכב נולד) (meaning ''A Star Is Born'') was an Israeli reality television show searching for talented new vocalists, based on the British ''Pop Idol'' model. Since its debut on Israeli Channel 2 in 2003, Kokhav Nolad has become popular and turned out many new musical stars. The show was hosted by Zvika Hadar.
