Israel Cricket Association
Israel Cricket Association is the official governing body of the sport of cricket in Israel. Israel Cricket Association is Israel's representative at the International Cricket Council. It is an associate member and has been a member of that body since 1974. Its principal objective is to incorporate and manage cricket within. Israel along with Denmark, Gibraltar, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy and Scotland founded the European Cricket Council in 1996. History Beginnings As is most often the case, cricket was introduced to Israel by the British. Local enthusiasts managed to keep the game going once the British had left in 1948, but the game was struggling until the mid-1960s, when an influx of Jewish immigrants from cricket playing countries revived the game, mainly South Africa, United Kingdom, and the Indian Subcontinent. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket. 1979 ICC Trophy
The 1979 ICC Trophy was a limited overs cricket tournament held in England between 22 May and 21 June 1979. It was the inaugural ICC Trophy tournament to be staged, with matches between the 15 participating teams played over 60 overs a side and with white clothing and red balls. All matches were played in the Midlands. The tournament served as the Cricket World Cup qualification process – the two finalists, Sri Lanka and Canada, qualified to take part in the 1979 World Cup. The World Cup began on 9 June, just three days after Sri Lanka and Canada qualified for it by winning their ICC Trophy semi-finals. The ICC Trophy final was held on 21 June at Worcestershire's ground at New Road, two days before the World Cup final. Sri Lanka won the first ICC Trophy defeating Canada in the final. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Dan Kiesel
Dan Kiesel (born 1938) is an Israeli-born German sports physiotherapist and osteopath who has worked as a trainer and physiotherapist for the national cricket teams of many countries, most notably Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Biography Dan Kiesel is a Jew of German origin and is also a citizen of Germany. He was trained as a physiotherapist at the Assaf Harofe Hospital in Israel from 1956 to 1960. He served for three years in the Israeli Defense Forces, after which he proceeded to England to work at the Epsom Hospital and the Farnham Royal Rehabilitation Centre near Windsor. He moved to Frankfurt, Germany in 1967 to study medicine while continuing to work as a physiotherapist. He earned his degree in osteopathy from the London College of Osteopathic Medicine. Negev Desert
