Isaac Ellis Pedlow
Isaac Ellis Pedlow (February 6, 1861 – February 13, 1954) was an Irish-born merchant and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Renfrew South in the House of Commons of Canada The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Pedlow was a dry goods merchant in Renfrew, Ontario. He died in Renfrew at the age of 93. Lurgan
Lurgan () is a town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, near the southern shore of Lough Neagh. Lurgan is about south-west of Belfast and is linked to the city by both the M1 motorway and the Belfast–Dublin railway line. Renfrew is a town on the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Located one hour west of Ottawa in Eastern Ontario, Renfrew is the fourth largest town in the county after Petawawa, Pembroke, Ontario, Pembroke and Arnprior. The town is a small transportation hub connecting Ontario Highway 60, Highway 60 and Ontario Highway 132, Highway 132 with the Trans-Canada Highway. Renfrew is also known historically for its role in the formation of the National Hockey League. It lies about 5 kilometres from the Portage-du-Fort, Quebec border, about 10 kilometres by road. Laurier Liberals
Prior to the 1917 federal election in Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada split into two factions. To differentiate the groups, historians tend to use two retrospective names: * The Laurier Liberals, who opposed conscription of soldiers to support Canada's involvement in World War I and who were led by former Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier; and * The Liberal Unionists who joined Sir Robert Borden's Unionist government. Seeking broader support for the imposition of conscription in 1917, Borden invited the Liberals into a wartime coalition government with the Conservatives. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, an opponent of conscription who feared for the nation if an opposition was not represented in Parliament, refused the request. Despite Laurier's refusal, the request split the Liberal Party largely along linguistic lines. Renfrew South (federal Electoral District)
Renfrew South was a federal riding represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. The federal riding was created by the British North America Act of 1867 and was abolished in 1966, with the riding being apportioned into Frontenac—Lennox and Addington, Lanark and Renfrew, and Renfrew North.
