Isaac Benzie was a department store located in Aberdeen, Scotland. History Isaac Benzie in 1894 opened a small drapery store at 185 George Street, Aberdeen after serving an apprenticeship in a general merchants shop in the village of Oyne Oyne is a small village in rural Aberdeenshire at the bottom of Bennachie in Scotland. Locality The village has limited local resources. It once had a railway station which closed 6 May 1968, and now has a daily bus service to Inverurie away .... The business grew moving to bigger premises in Gallogate and further premises being opened selling additional goods across Aberdeen and a Hosiery factory in Concert Court. In 1922, the business was incorporated and in 1924 the stores were all brought together under one roof at 143-167 George Street. However Isaac Benzie died in 1926, with his sons Isaac Junior and Athol running the business. Arnotts (Scotland)
Arnotts was a department store in Glasgow, Scotland. It became part of the House of Fraser and one of their group brands. History The store was opened by John Arnott as a subsidiary of Arnott, Cannock & Co of Dublin in 1850 in Jamaica Street as a drapery. During 1886 the partnership between Arnott and Cannock was dissolved and Thomas Arnott, half brother of John, ran the store under the name of Arnott & Co.. In 1864, the building was acquired from the trustees of the City of Glasgow Bank, expanding the store so by 1874 it was a department store. In 1891 the business was incorporated and by 1906 the store frontage was remodelled. During the 1920s and 30s the Company started to struggle and in 1936, Fraser, Sons & Co Ltd bought the business and created a new Arnott & Co company.
