Interkommunalt Selskap
Interkommunalt selskap or IKS (in English: Intermunicipal company) is a type of municipal or county owned company in Norway. It resembles very closely a Municipal Enterprise (''Kommunalt foretak'') or County Enterprise, but the IKS requires multiple municipalities and/or counties to be owners. The form is regulated by the ''Municipal Act''. Typical activities organised as IKS's include waterworks, archives, museums and garbage disposal. Norway is divided into 11 administrative regions, called counties (''fylker'' in Norwegian, singular: ''fylke''), and 356 municipalities (''kommuner/-ar'', singular: ''kommune'' – cf. communes). The capital city Oslo is considered both a county and a municipality. Municipalities are the atomic unit of local government in Norway and are responsible for primary education (until 10th grade), outpatient health services, senior citizen services, unemployment and other social services, zoning, economic development, and municipal roads. A or KF (English: "municipal enterprise") is a Norway, Norwegian company type. Specifically the term relates to an undertaking owned by a Municipalities of Norway, municipality. An equivalent enterprise owned by a Counties of Norway, county is known as a or FKF ("county enterprise"). Garbage Disposal
A garbage disposal unit (also known as a waste disposal unit, garbage disposer, garburator etc.) is a device, usually electrically powered, installed under a kitchen sink between the sink's drain and the trap. The disposal unit shreds food waste into pieces small enough—generally less than in diameter—to pass through plumbing. History The garbage disposal unit was invented in 1927 by John W. Hammes, an architect working in Racine, Wisconsin. He applied for a patent in 1933 that was issued in 1935. His InSinkErator company put his disposer on the market in 1940. Municipalities and county councils in Sweden may form local federations () and transfer to such federations the management of local government concerns. When a local federation attends to a matter for which provisions exist in a special enactment, the provisions of that enactment concerning municipalities or county councils shall apply to the local federation.
