Insurance And Pensions Authority (Isle Of Man)
The Insurance and Pensions Authority ( gv, Lught-reill Urryssaght as Penshynyn) or IPA was the statutory body responsible for the regulation and supervision of pensions and insurance businesses operated in or from the Isle of Man. In 2015, the IPA merged with the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) to form the Financial Services Authority (IOMFSA). History It was first established as the Insurance Authority in 1986. In 1997, its remit was expanded to include oversight of businesses providing pensions and similar products, and it was renamed the Insurance and Pensions Authority. Remit Its remit was to authorise and supervise those businesses carrying on these activities, either in or from the Island. It also oversaw general insurance brokers. Clare Christian
Clare Margaret Christian OBE CP (born 11 September 1945) is a Manx politician, who was President of Tynwald until 2016. She is a former member of the Legislative Council and former Health Minister in the Isle of Man Government. Christian is the daughter of Sir Charles Kerruish, President of Tynwald and Chairman of the Executive Council. Her sister is Anne Craine, the former Treasury Minister. She is a graduate of the University of London with a degree in Physics and Chemistry, and previously worked as a research chemist for Cadbury Schweppes. She was also the Island Guide Commissioner from 1991 to 1996. Christian became an MHK at her first attempt for the Ayre constituency in March 1980, but failed to be re-elected in 1986. She was, however, appointed an MLC in 1993 and was appointed Health Minister in 1996, overseeing the construction of the new Noble's Hospital. John Norman Radcliffe was a former member of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man. He was born in 1931 and educated at Ramsey Grammar School. He became a farmer before being both a member and the Chairman of the Andreas Parish Commissioners. For a long time, he worked for the MER (Manx Electric Railway) and was Station Master at Ramsey. In 1976, he was elected as Member of the House of Keys for Ayre Ayre ( ; gv, Inver Ayre) is one of the six sheadings of the Isle of Man. Donald James Gelling CBE CP, CInstSMM (born 5 July 1938) is a Manx former politician, who is a former Chief Minister of the Isle of Man who served two terms as Head of the Government. Early life and career Gelling was born on Tynwald Day (5 July) 1938 in Santon, a village to the south-west of Douglas. He was apprenticed in engineering from 1954 to 1959 and after National Service in the Royal Air Force he became a salesman of agricultural machinery and vehicles. He was a general manager of his company from 1969. His political career began immediately as his National Service ended in 1961 when he was elected as a Santon Parish Commissioner; he served for 25 years and had five terms as Chairman of the Commissioners.
