Inside Story (TV Programme)
''Inside Story'' is a daily news programme broadcast by Al Jazeera English. The programme provides analysis and commentary on recent news stories and is modeled after ''Mā Warā’ al-Khabar'' ( ar, ما وراء الخبر; ''Behind the News'') on the sister channel, Al Jazeera (Arabic). Original version The original Al Jazeera English version of the programme broadcasts from Al Jazeera's studios in Doha, with an anchor who is joined by guests from around the globe. The hosts rotate depending upon the topic being covered. The programme began airing in November 2006 alongside the launch of Al Jazeera English. American version An American version of the show launched on Al Jazeera America on August 20, 2013 on the channel's debut and was first hosted by Libby Casey who afterwards acted as a fill in host. Doha ( ar, الدوحة, ad-Dawḥa or ''ad-Dōḥa'') is the capital city and main financial hub of Qatar. Located on the Persian Gulf coast in the east of the country, north of Al Wakrah and south of Al Khor, it is home to most of the country's population. Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. It occupies the Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East; it shares its sole land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Al Jazeera English (AJE; ar, الجزيرة, translit=al-jazīrah, , literally "The Peninsula", referring to the Qatar Peninsula) is an international 24-hour English-language news channel owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which is owned by the monarchy government of Qatar. It is the first English-language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East. Instead of being run centrally, news management rotates between broadcasting centres in Doha and London. Al Jazeera ( ar, الجزيرة, translit-std=DIN, translit=al-jazīrah, , "The Island") is a state-owned Arabic-language international radio and TV broadcaster of Qatar. It is based in Doha and operated by the media conglomerate Al Jazeera Media Network. The flagship of the network, its station identification, is ''Al Jazeera.'' The patent holding is a "private foundation for Public interest law, public benefit" under Qatari law. Al Jazeera America was an American pay television news channel owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network. The channel was launched on August 20, 2013, to compete with CNN, HLN, MSNBC, Fox News, and in certain markets RT America. It was Al Jazeera's second entry into the U.S. television market, after the launch of beIN Sports in 2012. The channel, which had persistently low ratings, announced in January 2016 that it would close on April 12, 2016, citing the "economic landscape". Rafael Suarez, Jr. (born March 5, 1957), known as Ray Suarez, is an American broadcast journalist and author. He is currently a visiting professor at NYU Shanghai and was previously the John J. McCloy Visiting Professor of American Studies at Amherst College. ''UpFront'' is a current affairs discussion, debate and analysis programme on Al Jazeera English. The show premiered on 4 September 2015 shortly after Al Jazeera moved into their new Washington D.C. hub. The show has a politics focus although other subjects are broached such as religion, economics, development and government activities. The show is weekly and premieres new episodes on Fridays. The programme is centred around current affairs with each episode dedicated to one or two topics. Typically each episode contains Hasan doing an interview with a guest on a subject which is followed by a debate on the subject. The premiere episode featured an interview with Edward Snowden about the National Security Agency leaks. The 2012 United States presidential election was the 57th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
