Inni í Dal, roughly translated to "''In the Valley''", is a location on the island of Sandoy, The Faroe Islands. ''Inni í Dal'' is the home ground of local football team B71 Sandoy, B71, but also the location the joint public secondary school of Sandoy, Sandoyar Meginskúli. History Construction Since the municipality, municipalities on the island of Sandoy had begun construction of a new public school for the whole island and newly founded B71 Sandoy, B71 needed a football-pitch, it seemed almost natural that the building of the school and football pitch would coincide. Sandur (Faroe Islands)
Sandur (meaning ''sandy beach''; da, Sand) is a village on the south coast of the island of Sandoy in the Faroe Islands. The Sandur hoard of silver coins, dating to the end of the 11th century, attests to the long history of the village. In January 2020 the population stood at 532. The Municipality of Sandur consists of the village of Sandur only. It is the most populous place on the "Sand Island", and is situated on a peninsula between the lakes of Gróthúsvatn in the northwest and Sandsvatn in the northeast, facing the inlets of Grótvík and Sandsvágur in the south. B71 (Sandoy) (B71 being short for Bóltfelagið 1971 – literal translation: "Ball Club 1971") is a Faroese sports club, playing their home games '' Inni í Dal'', Sandur. Teams are made up of players from all the towns on the island of Sandoy. Current squad The Club history Origins (1970–1971) Although B71 is one of the youngest football-teams in the Faroe Islands, there has always been a considerable amount of interest in sports on the particular island from which the team fares. Football had been played well before B71 was established in 1970, but since sand-surfaces were deemed unsuitable for football, a team had yet to be formed. In the late 1960s, two of the island's towns, Sandur and Skopun, started to compete. There were no goals, so instead they used two rocks each, representing goalposts. Sandoy
Sandoy ("Sand Island") is the first of the five southern islands that make up the Faroe chain, the fifth biggest of all the Faroe Islands, an autonomous region of the Kingdom of Denmark. It also refers to the region that includes this island along with Skúvoy and Stóra Dímun. , the largest population centre on the island is the village of Sandur with a population of 532. Other settlements include Skarvanes, Skopun, Skálavík, Húsavík and Dalur. Sandoy gets its name from the large beach at Sandur, and the general sandy soil of the island. Sandoyartunnilin
Sandoyartunnilin (Sandoy Tunnel) is an undersea road tunnel under construction in the Faroe Islands. It will connect the main island of Streymoy with Sandoy to the south. The length of the tunnel will be 10.8 kilometres. The estimated cost is 860 million DKK. The tunnel is expected to be ready for traffic in late 2023, after which the ferry '' Teistin'' will cease its route between Gamlarætt on Streymoy and Skopun on Sandoy. The tunnel crosses the Skopunarfjørður and runs from Gamlarætt to Traðardalur in central Sandoy, near the Inni í Dal stadium. On 3 February 2022 the two sides of the tunnel were connected during a ceremony. Construction began on 27 June 2019 and the halfway mark was hit in September 2020. It will take until the end of 2022 before the tunnel can open for traffic and the ferry route to Sandoy will cease to operate. Gamlarætt
Gamlarætt is a ferry port in the Faroe Islands. It is situated on the southwestern side of the island of Streymoy, the largest island in the Faroes, between the villages of Velbastaður and Kirkjubøur. It accommodates ferry services to the islands of Sandoy and Hestur. The port is also used for local salmon farms. History Until 1993 all ferry traffic to Sandoy operated from Tórshavn, on a northern route across Skopunarfjørður to Skopun and Hestur, and a southern route via Skúvoyarfjørður to Skálavík, Skúvoy and Sandur. This resulted in crossing times of 1–2 hours for non-stop trips to 2–3 hours with other calls en route from Tórshavn. A ferry port at Streymoy's southern tip would reduce the crossing time to 30 minutes to both Sandoy and 20 minutes to Hestur. Such a jetty was earlier proposed to be built in Kirkjubøur in 1963 and 1970, selected for its proximity to Sandoy and the relatively calm waters.
