''In Their Darkened Shrines'' is the third studio album by American death metal band Nile. It was released on August 20, 2002 through Relapse Records. It is the only album to feature Tony Laureano on drums. In addition to being Nile's longest studio album, the title track is the band's longest song ever made at over 18 minutes in length. Songs The lyrics to "In Their Darkened Shrines IV: Ruins" are borrowed from the H. P. Lovecraft short story, "The Nameless City". These lyrics are not actually spoken in the song, as it is an instrumental. Along with "In Their Darkened Shrines I: Hall of Saurian Entombment", the lyrics are supplementary to the theme of the instrumental. The two main melodies of "Unas Slayer Of The Gods" are a tribute to "Gothic Stone/The Well of Souls" by Candlemass, from their doom metal album '' Nightfall''. Nile is an American death metal band from Greenville, South Carolina, formed in 1993. The band's current lineup consists of Karl Sanders (guitars, vocals), George Kollias (drums), Brian Kingsland (guitars, vocals), and Scott Eames (guitars, vocals). Candlemass is a Swedish epic doom metal band established in Stockholm in 1984 by bassist, songwriter and bandleader Leif Edling and drummer Matz Ekström. The band had a defining influence on doom metal, and the genre itself is named after their debut album ''Epicus Doomicus Metallicus''. Pig Destroyer
Pig Destroyer is an American grindcore band formed in 1997 in Alexandria, Virginia. The band was formed by vocalist J.R. Hayes, guitarist Scott Hull, and drummer John Evans. Throughout the band's earlier history, they were a three-piece group until sampler Blake Harrison joined in 2006, notably had no bassist until the inclusion of John Jarvis in 2013, and went through 2 past drummers with the role currently held by Adam Jarvis. Scott Hull (born March 4, 1971) is an American grindcore musician, and the current guitarist and producer for Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Japanese Torture Comedy Hour. He has been part of many other projects including the controversial band Anal Cunt (also known as AC or AxCx). Aside from his music works, he currently works as a government computer specialist. Hull is noted for his experimental style of guitar playing that incorporates various influences, as well as for his use of eight string and seven string guitars. Dallas Toler-Wade
Dallas Toler-Wade (born June 6, 1974) is an American musician, best known for his work in the ancient Egyptian-themed technical death metal band Nile. He is currently the guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the metal band Narcotic Wasteland. Biography Toler-Wade started playing the drums at seven-years old. At the age of fourteen, he started learning to play the guitar. His career started as a drummer for the Greenville, South Carolina-based technical death metal band Lecherous Nocturne. During his tenure there, he was recommended to Karl Sanders of Nile and subsequently joined the band in September 1997 as a guitarist and vocalist. He left the band in October 2016. Nile announced the departure in February 2017. Toler-Wade started Narcotic Wasteland as a side project in 2014, but it became his full-time project once he left Nile in 2016. Karl Sanders
Karl Sanders (born June 5, 1963) is an American singer and guitarist, most widely known as the founding member of the ancient Egyptian-themed technical death metal band Nile. Early life Before creating Nile, Sanders was in a thrash metal band during the late 1980s called Morriah and played local shows with the young Morbid Angel and other US death metal bands. Other projects Sanders began his own solo side project in 2004. Much of the music that he plays includes similar elements of his band Nile, however presented in an ambient/Egyptian folk format, rather than death metal. ''Nightfall'' is the second studio album by the Swedish doom metal band Candlemass, released on 9 November 1987 through Axis Records. After being dropped from the label Black Dragon Records, Candlemass were the first band signed to Axis. The group had a new line-up from their previous album including vocalist Messiah Marcolin, whose decisions became instrumental during the production and release stages of the album. The Nameless City
"The Nameless City" is a short horror story written by American writer H. P. Lovecraft in January 1921 and first published in the November 1921 issue of the amateur press journal ''The Wolverine''. It is often considered the first story set in the Cthulhu Mythos world. In the story, the protagonist travels to the middle of the Arabian Desert to explore an ancient underground city.
