Sweet Female Attitude is an electronic music act from Manchester, England. They are known for the UK garage remix by Sunship of their track "Flowers", written by Martin Green a.k.a. Shine MC and Mike Powell, which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in April 2000. Biography Sweet Female Attitude began in 1996. Mike Powell, then manager/music producer and creator of the original name "Sweet Female Attitude" got together with DJ Shine MC and then 17-year-old singer Leanne Brown and began writing music together. Collectively, they developed a three-member group comprising Brown, Shine MC, and Charlene Morrison, then later Sarah Bridgewood joined. UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house, but also incorporates elements from dance-pop, R&B, and jungle. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals, and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular " 2-step" rhythms. Ceri Evans (Sunship)
Ceri Evans, better known as Sunship, is an English record producer, DJ, remixer and jazz pianist. Evans' musical career began in 1981 as a member of the jazz-funk band Swamp Children who released the album ''So Hot'' on Factory Records in 1982. He was an original member of acid jazz band the Brand New Heavies from 1985 until his departure from the group in 1992. Evans then entered into the electronic dance music scene, producing and remixing under the alias Sunship. He released his MOBO Award-winning self-titled debut album in 1997, followed by the UK garage album ''Is This Real'' in 1998. "Flowers" is the debut single by UK garage duo Sweet Female Attitude, released on 3 April 2000. The song uses the same chord sequence as Erik Satie's ''Trois Gymnopédies'', and the actual piece can be heard in the version by The House & Garage Orchestra, from the 2018 album ''Garage Classics''. The song peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart with first-week sales of about 80,500. It went on to become the United Kingdom's 37th biggest-selling single of 2000 and received a platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales and streams of at least 600,000. The duo's subsequent releases failed to replicate the commercial success of “Flowers”, with the song being described as a "one-hit wonder" for Sweet Female Attitude.
