Ilse Jonas
Ilse Jonas (29 May 1884–30 April 1922) was a German painter. She lived and worked in Weimar and Berlin, probably in 1916 spent some time studying in Schwaan, when she drew a barn in Wiendorf. That year she also made the painting ''Warnowbrücke'' (Warnow Bridge). Other women who came to study in Schwaan were Elisabeth von Aster, Barkenhöft, Lilly Schmidt, Hedwig von Germar, and Helene Dolberg. Early artistic education Ilse Jonas wanted to be an artist at an early age, and with the support of her parents she took private painting lessons as a teenager. In 1904 she began her studies at the Verein der Künstlerinnen zu Berlin in 1867. Her teacher, Margarete Hoenerbach (1848-1924), was a portrait, still life and landscape painter. Jonas belonged to Hoenerbach's portrait class until 1909. Work Jonas' artwork focuses on portraits and landscapes. Weimar is a city in the state of Thuringia, Germany. Schwaan
Schwaan is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is also the seat of the Schwaan Township, serving another six municipalities. The town is famous for being a traditional art colony. Geography The area around Schwaan is part of the vast North European Plain, stretching from western France to Russia. Margarete Hoenerbach
Margarete Hoenerbach (Deutz, Cologne, 19 September 1848 – Berlin, 1924) was a German painter, graphic artist, medallist, and sculptor. Life Margarete Hoenerbach trained privately with Otto Rethel and Alfred Hertel in Düsseldorf and settled in Berlin after stays in Paris and Italy. She initially devoted herself to portrait, still life, and landscape painting. In 1868, the drawing and painting school of the Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen was founded as the first public institution where women received basic and systematic training in art. Women were not admitted to the art academy until 1919. In 1891, the association and the school established themselves as permanent institutions within the Berlin art scene with generous subsidies from the Prussian Ministry of Education.
