Ilha (Portuguese for "island") is a civil parish in the municipality of Santana in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The population in 2011 was 255, in an area of 14.19 km². History The history of this parish extends from the end of the 20th century, when it was created in 1989 by de-annexation from the civil parish of São Jorge.Câmara Municipal/Terra Cidade (2011), p.52 Its name was an extension of geomorphological characteristics, since it was an "island" between many of its other neighbours (''ilha'' is the Portuguese word for ''island''), one of the few landlocked parishes on the island of Madeira. Madeira Island
Madeira is a Portuguese island, and is the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago. It has an area of , including Ilhéu de Agostinho, Ilhéu de São Lourenço, Ilhéu Mole (northwest). As of 2011, Madeira had a total population of 262,456. The island is the top of a massive submerged shield volcano that rises about from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. São Jorge ( pt, Saint George) is a civil parish in the municipality of Santana, in the island of Madeira. The population in 2011 was 1,473, in an area of . History São Jorge was created in 1515, and benefitted from the patronage of King Manuel I of Portugal when it was merely a religious parish. These revelations were documented in the archives of the ''Torre do Tombo'', and also included many of the pieces and religious artefacts donated by the King to the first Church of São Jorge. Serra Da Estrela
Serra da Estrela () is the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal. Together with the Serra da Lousã it is the westernmost constituent range of the Sistema Central and also one of the highest in the system. It includes mainland Portugal's highest point at above mean sea level (although the summit of Mount Pico in the Portuguese Azores islands is higher).
