Ian Carmichael (musician)
Ian Carmichael (born 1 June 1960) is a Scottish sound engineer, born in Glasgow. He started his career working at the Irn Bru factory in Scotland before becoming a live sound engineer, before building his own recording studio called 'The Irn Bru Hit Factory' in Glasgow in 1986. His most notable productions are for Glasgow indie band The Orchids, before he started his own band, One Dove, in 1991, with their highly influential album release, '' Morning Dove White'' in 1993. When One Dove split in 1995, Carmichael went on to work with Manchester band Lamb, with recording and mixing credits on both '' Fear of Fours'' and ''What Sound''. He also produced and remixed for iconic Glasgow indie band The Pastels on their albums ''Mobile Safari'' (1995), '' Illumination'' (1997), and ''Illuminati'' (1998), as well as Bis ("Detour" single), and Manchester garage band, Un-Cut. ''Illumination'' is the fourth studio album by the Scottish band The Pastels, originally released via Domino Recording Company in 1997. The album shows the group honing in on a warmer, gentler and more subdued sound compared to their previous work. It is their last studio album to feature longtime member Annabel "Aggi" Wright as a full member before she left to concentrate on her career as an illustrator in 2000. Whilst The Pastels continued to release music, ''Illumination'' would be their last proper studio album for 16 years, until the release of ''Slow Summits'' in 2013. ''Good to be a Stranger'' is an album by The Orchids, released in 2007. It was recorded by the group when they reunited in 2006 with new members Ronnie Borland and Keith Sharp. "Good to Be a Stranger is buttoned-down guitar pop at its most shuffling, but when you consider where these lads have been (and just as important, where they're from), it takes this release beyond your standard reunion fare. However, their fans will notice that creative dotage and standard rust hasn't eroded the Orchids' ability to craft toothsome pop delightfully belying their gritty background. Un-Cut were a British group from Manchester, England, composed of Darren Lewis and Iyiola Babalola from the music production duo Future Cut, and vocalist Jenna Gibbons (Jenna G). Bis ( ) (stylised as bis) are a Scottish indie pop band composed of Steven Clark (Sci-Fi Steven), John Clark (John Disco), and Amanda MacKinnon (Manda Rin), formed in 1994. The band's name, rhyming with 'this', derives from "black iron skyline", a lyric from the song "Twilight of a Champion" by The The.
