I Have A Right
''I Have a Right'' is Gloria Gaynor's seventh studio album, released in 1979. The track, "Let Me Know (I Have a Right)", was released as a single and reached #42 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The album has never been released on CD. Reception AllMusic called the opening track "Let me Know" a "a very weak and contrived start" and "a poor person's "I Will Survive"". However, "the rest of the material is excellent. From both a disco standpoint and a Northern soul standpoint, ''I Have a Right'' is a welcome addition to Gaynor's catalog." ''Smash Hits'', however, said, "A desperately dull collection of over orchestrated nightclub songs, an out of date rhythm machine and a struggling soul singer bring you every disco cliché in the book without a shred of originality or personality to rescue it. Formula dance music for computers." Track listing Personnel * Gloria Gaynor - lead vocals * Bob Bowles, Wah Wah Watson - guitar * J. Peter Robinson, Pete Robinson - key ...

Gloria Gaynor ( née Fowles; born September 7, 1943) is an American singer, best known for the disco era hits "I Will Survive" (1978), " Let Me Know (I Have a Right)" (1979), " I Am What I Am" (1983), and her version of "Never Can Say Goodbye" (1974). Early life Gaynor was born Gloria Fowles in Newark, New Jersey, to Daniel Fowles and Queenie Mae Proctor. Her grandmother lived nearby and was involved in her upbringing. "There was always music in our house", Gaynor wrote in her autobiography ''I Will Survive''. She enjoyed listening to the radio, and to records by Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan. Her father played the ukulele and guitar and sang professionally in nightclubs with a group called Step 'n' Fetchit. Gloria grew up a tomboy; she had five brothers and one sister. Her brothers sang gospel and formed a quartet with a friend. Gaynor was not allowed to sing with the all-male group, nor was her younger brother Arthur, as Gloria was a girl and he was too young. Arthur later ...

Tonight (1956 Song)
"Tonight" is a song from the 1957 musical ''West Side Story'' with music written by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It was published in 1956. Description The song is a love duet between the protagonists Tony and Maria, sung while Tony visits Maria on the fire escape outside her apartment. ''West Side Story'' is a modernized adaptation of Shakespeare's '' Romeo and Juliet'' set in 20th-century New York; the scene in which "Tonight" appears is the adaptation of ''Romeo and Juliets famous "balcony scene". History Originally the song for the balcony scene was to have been " One Hand, One Heart". It was felt that this song was too innocent for two teenagers in love, and so it was decided to take this tune, which hitherto only existed as the overarching phrase from the " Tonight Quintet" and use it as the tune for the balcony scene. In the original 1957 Broadway production of ''West Side Story'', "Tonight" was performed by Larry Kert and Carol Lawrence in the ...

Doc Severinsen
Carl Hilding "Doc" Severinsen (born July 7, 1927) is an American retired jazz trumpeter who led the NBC Orchestra on ''The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson''. Early life Severinsen was born in Arlington, Oregon, to Minnie Mae (1897–1998) and Carl Severinsen (1898–1972). He was nicknamed Doc after his father, the only dentist in Arlington, who was born in Germany to a Danish father and a Swiss mother. Severinsen's father played violin and wanted him to play it as well, but Severinsen wanted to play trombone. Because his arms were not long enough for trombone, and the small Arlington music store had none available, he settled for the cornet. A neighbor gave him some help on how to play, while his father, tobacco in mouth, instructed him to spit out the notes like spitting tobacco. His mother threatened to spank him if he didn't practice. Severinsen proved to have a knack for the instrument, and was in a high school band when he was seven. At 9, he won a state trumpet conte ...
