Ivory, Maryland
Ivory is an unincorporated community located at the northwest tip of Howard County, Maryland Maryland ( ) is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It shares borders with Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia to its south and west; Pennsylvania to its north; and Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to ..., United States. It is located between modern Glenelg and West Friendship. History The area is home to the estate of Enoch Selby who lived on the "Chapel of Ease" founded in 1750. The Ivory post office opened for the community on 4 July 1886. The post office was operated by postmaster William V. Sheppard until 1918. Sections of Ivory road remain, but most have been overlapped by Route 32. The path through town is now a segment of the Maryland Broadband Network awaiting lease. Howard County is located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 287,085. As of the 2020 census its population rose to 328,200. Its county seat is Ellicott City. Glenelg, Maryland
Glenelg is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is located in the 21737 ZIP Code, and is part of the 410 area code. It is the home town of Glenelg High School. History John Dorsey, who was one of the first settlers in what is now Howard County and a prominent man, gave land to his daughter Sarah Dorsey Howard and her husband Henry Howard out in the western part of the county (which is now Glenelg) in 1735. The property was called Howard's Resolution. Ephraim Howard, son of Sara and Henry, built a house on the property in the middle or late 18th century.
