Ivor Hughes (speedway Rider)
Ivor John Hughes (28 February 1939 – 23 August 1966) was a motorcycle speedway rider from Wales, who rode for the Cradley Heath Heathens team during the 1960s. He died following a track accident at the Dudley Wood Stadium on Saturday 20 August 1966 in the final heat of the 1966 British League season, British League match against Sheffield Tigers. His off-track occupation was a plumber in his home town of Berriew, Powys, Wales. Career Born in Middletown, near Welshpool Hughes started motorcycling with the local Clive Motorcycle Club, being a founder member, before turning to speedway with the purchase of a JAP machine at the end 1963 and after-the-meeting rides at Stoke. During June 1964 he made his first team appearance riding for Wolverhampton Wolves and then joined Cradley. By the end of 1965 he achieved an average of 2.89 for Cradley and 6.00 for Exeter Falcons. Welshpool ( cy, Y Trallwng) is a market town and community in Powys, Wales, historically in the county of Montgomeryshire. Berriew ( cy, Aberriw) is a village and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. Jack Kitchen
Christopher John Kitchen (2 August 1938 – 21 July 1990) was a motorcycle speedway rider from England. Career Kitchen started his British leagues career in 1958 as he captained the Bradford Boomerangs junior side and in the 1958 Speedway National League he rode for Belle Vue Aces, where he helped the team win the National Trophy. He would ride for the Manchester club for six years until the end of 1963. He also had spells with Bradford Panthers and Sheffield Tigers in the Provincial League. From 1963 he rode for Sheffield and in 1965 topped the team's averages, which led him to represent Sheffield in the British League Riders' Championship. He went on to earn two international British caps. His last season was in 1966 and he retired aged just 28. Bob Paulson (speedway Rider)
Robert Wilfred Paulson, (born 1958) is a former Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He retired from the RCMP at the end of June 2017. Life and career Paulson was born in Lachute, Quebec in 1958. His father was an Icelandic Canadian from Winnipeg whereas his mother was French Canadian. Growing up, he was a member of Cadets Canada. Paulson's older brother was a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. RCAF career (1975-1984) Paulson joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot after high school, serving from 1977 - 1984. He worked as a flight instructor and aviation administrator at CFB Moose Jaw and CFB North Bay. He left the Canadian Forces in 1984. Björn Knutson
Björn Knutson commonly spelt Knutsson (born 27 April 1938 in Sweden) is a former motorcycle speedway rider who won the Speedway World Championship in 1965 and was a four-time winner of the World Team Cup. He gained the nickname 'The Crown Prince' for his speedway success. Career Knutson also won the Speedway Swedish Individual Championship in 1961 and 1963. He first rode in Great Britain after signing for Southampton Saints, during the 1959 Speedway National League. He topped the team's averages in 1960 and became one of the league's leading riders during the period. He outscored his teammate Barry Briggs at Southampton in both 1962 and 1963 at a time, when Briggs was in the middle of winning his four world championships. He finished his British league career with West Ham Hammers, at the end of the 1964 Speedway National League season. Sheffield Tigers
The Sheffield 'Tru Plant' Tigers are a motorcycle speedway team based in Sheffield, England. They currently race in the British SGB Premiership, and their home meetings take place at Owlerton Stadium. The Tigers traditionally hold their race nights on Thursdays between March and October. The Tigers are sponsored by Tru Plant, promoted by Damien Bates, Peter Mole and Julie Reading. History Owlerton was a purpose built speedway track built in 1929. The team were inaugural members of the English Dirt Track League and Northern league the following season. In 1930 they rode as the Sheffield Blades.
