Ivan Turyanytsia
Ivan Ivanovych Turyanytsia ( uk, Іван Іванович Туряниця; 25 May 1901 – 27 March 1955) was a Czechoslovak, Ukrainian and Soviet politician, who served as the chairman of the People's Council of Zakarpattia Ukraine from 1944 to 1946 and the First secretary of the Communist Party of Zakarpattia Ukraine. On several occasions he was elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party (b) of Ukraine. Turyanytsia was born in a village of Ryapid near Khust. During the World War I he served as a soldier of the Austria-Hungary army, later in 1919 in the Zakarpattia Red Guards of the Hungarian Soviet Republic. The same year Turyanytsia was arrested and placed in concentration camp in Presov, but by December 1919 he was released. The Zakarpattia Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, commonly referred to as the Zakarpattia CPU obkom, was the position of highest authority in the Zakarpattia Oblast, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union. On 19 November 1944 there was established position of the First Secretaries of the Communist Party of Zakarpattian Ukraine. On 26 November 1944 there was established People's Council of Zakarpattian Ukraine which declared its intention to unite Zakarpattian Ukraine with the Ukrainian SSR. On 29 June 1945 Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union signed the treaty transferring Zakarpattian Ukraine to the Soviet Union, which was ratified on 30 January 1946.
