Itaperuna Esporte Clube, or Itaperuna as they are usually called, is a Brazilian football team from Itaperuna in Rio de Janeiro, founded on July 21, 1989. History The first football was brought to Itaperuna city in 1911, and, soon after, the first football matches were played at Fazenda Porto Alegre (Porto Alegre Farm, in English, near Avenida Zulamith Bittencourt (Zulamith Bittencourt Avenue, in English). In 1915, Porto Alegre Futebol Clube were founded, adopting black, white and red as its official colors. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série B is commonly referred to as the Brasileirão Série B (Série B), and until 2022 was officially called Brasileirão Sportingbet by sponsorship reasons. It is the second tier of the Brazilian football league system. Although not having been played annually since its founding in 1971, the competition format has changed almost every season. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Until 2008, any professional team could apply, but only 64 teams would take part in the tournament. The teams that had been relegated from the Série B in the previous year were joined by teams qualified for each federation state.
