The Italpark was a theme park in Argentina, which was located where currently is the Parque Thays (Avenida del Libertador (Buenos Aires), del Libertador corner Avenida Callao, Callao avenues) in the Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It became a landmark of Buenos Aires in its 30 years of existence. History Crisis and demise On 29 July 1990, one of the wagons of the ride Matter Horn broke, and in the incident a 15-year-old girl named Roxana Celia Alaimo died, and her friend Karina Benítez was severely wounded. Four months later, the city mayor Carlos Grosso ordered the definitive closure of Italpark. Recoleta, Buenos Aires
Recoleta is a ''barrio'' or neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, located in the northern part of the city, by the Río de la Plata. The area is perhaps best known to be the home of the distinguished Recoleta Cemetery. The Parque Thays is a public space in Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The park is located in the corners of Libertador avenue y Callao avenue. It was named after the French landscape architect Carlos Thays. One of the sculptures can be seen in this place is ''Torso Masculino Desnudo'' ("Nude Male Torso") by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The land on which the park is located is the formerly occupied Italpark amusement park, which was closed in 1990. Callao Avenue ( es, Avenida Callao) is one of the principal thoroughfares in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Overview Mayor Torcuato de Alvear, inspired by the urban redevelopment works in Paris at the direction of Baron Haussmann, drew up master plans for major boulevards, running east to west (every six blocks) and north to south (every ten blocks). Named in honor of the decisive Battle of Callao, the avenue was included in the plan and widened in the 1880s. A one-way thoroughfare following a 1967 ordinance, the avenue travels northwards from its outset at Rivadavia Avenue, along the northwest corner of Congressional Plaza. The Parque de la Ciudad ( en, City Park) is a former amusement park in the Villa Soldati neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. History The park was planned by the administration of Mayor Osvaldo Cacciatore in 1978. Cacciatore, appointed by Argentina's last military government, envisaged the park as the centerpiece of efforts to revitalize the dilapidated Villa Soldati ward. The mayor opened the contract to develop a theme park for bidding, and awarded the bid to Interama Parks S.A., a company established for the purpose; Alberto Gourdy Allende was chosen as its first managing director. Interama Parks was formed for use of the military that governed Argentina at that time, but also for civilian use. Parque de la Costa () is an amusement park located in Tigre, a northern suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Development The park, located on a lot along the Paraná River Delta (on the Luján River), was developed by Santiago Soldati & Walter Álvarez, whose family holding company, SCP, had been bolstered by record earnings in its Compañía General de Combustibles (CGC) unit, an energy sector distributor, during the early and mid-1990s.
