''Il sire di Vincigliata'' (‘The Sire of Vincigliata’) is a 1913 Italian silent colour film, produced by Roberts Film of Florence/ Série d'Art Pathé frères (SAPF) and directed by Alfredo Robert who also plays the title character. The film runs for 16 minutes. Plot To bring to an end a protracted war between the Sires of San Miniato and Vincigliata a marriage is arranged between their children Jacopo and Beatrice. One night however the bejewelled and beautiful Beatrice is distracted from the tender words of her betrothed by the serenade of a young troubadour beneath her window. When the Sire of Vincigliata discovers that his daughter has fallen in love with the troubadour, he has him put into prison and condemned to death by hanging. Beatrice bribes the prison guard to allow her beloved to escape. She waits for him in a boat and, although the alarm is sounded, they break free from their pursuers and head for the open sea. Carmine Gallone (10 September 1885 – 11 March 1973) was an early Italian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, who was also controversial for his works of pro-Fascist propaganda and historical revisionism. Considered one of Italian cinema's leading early directors, he directed over 120 films in his fifty-year career between 1913 and 1963. Arturo Ambrosio
Arturo Ambrosio (1870–1960) was an Italian film producer who was a pioneering and influential figure in the early years of Italian cinema. Biography Ambrosio was a photographer who owned a shop in Turin. In 1904, after returning from a visit to Paris with a new film camera he began making short films of a documentary nature. In 1906 he founded Ambrosio Films and began making more ambitious fiction films. In 1908 Ambrosio produced and directed ''The Last Days of Pompeii'', a major hit which helped trigger a fashion for Italian historical epics, generally set in the Classical era. Over the next decade Ambrosio oversaw a number of popular films and was able to export them to lucrative foreign markets such as Britain and America. Like other Italian filmmakers, Ambrosio struggled during the crisis that hit Italian filmmaking following the First World War and his career appeared to have been ended by the commercial failure of his 1924 epic ''Quo Vadis''.
