Luigi Mele
Luigi Mele (11 September 1937 – 14 April 2023) was an Italian racing cyclist. He rode in the 1962 Tour de France as well as in three editions of the Giro d'Italia. :''See Calvi for namesakes'' Calvi Risorta is a ''comune'' (municipality) and former bishopric in the Province of Caserta in the Italian region Campania, located across the Via Casilina about northwest of Naples and about northwest of Caserta. It is composed of three distinct villages, Petrulo, Visciano and Zuni, the latter housing the municipal seat. History In the municipal territory are the remains of the ancient Roman city of Cales or Calenum, not far from Capua. Destroyed in the 9th century by the Saracens, it was rebuilt by Atenulf I of Capua. During the early stages of the Italian Campaign of World War II, war pigeon G.I. Joe saved the lives of the inhabitants of the village and of the British troops occupying it. The 1962 Tour de France was the 49th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The race consisted of 22 stages, including two split stages, starting in Nancy on 24 June and finishing at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 15 July. There were four time trial stages and no rest days. After more than 30 years, the Tour was again contested by trade teams instead of national teams. Jacques Anquetil of the team won the overall general classification, defending his title to win his third Tour de France. The Coppa Placci is a semi classic European bicycle race held between Imola, Italy and San Marino. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 1.HC event on the UCI Europe Tour. The race is named after Antonio Placci, a cyclist born in Imola who died in 1921, two years before the race was created. Because of sponsorship problems, in 2010 the race has been excluded from the UCI Europe Tour and was reserved to the Elite/Under 23 Category.
