The Israeli Jewish Congress - HAKHEL was founded in 2012 (abbreviation IJC ) and is based in Israel. It represents the Jewish Community of Israel in relation to Diaspora Jewry, mainly European Jewish communities and international forums and institutions. It currently has offices in Tel Aviv (in the Electra Tower), Israel and is planning on opening more branches in major European capitals. Vision: Promoting the principle of Israel as the Jewish State. Hakhel
The term Hakhel (Hebrew: הקהל ''haqhēl'') refers to a biblical commandment of assembling all Israelite men, women and children, as well as converts to assemble and hear the reading of the Torah by the king of Israel once every seven years. Originally this ceremony took place at the site of the Temple in Jerusalem during Sukkot in the year following a Seventh Year. According to the Mishna, the "commandment to assemble" (Hebrew: מצות הקהל ''mitzvat hakhel'') was performed throughout the years of the Second Temple era and, by inference, during the First Temple era as well. The biblical mitzvah of Hakhel is only in effect when all the Jewish people reside in Israel. However, more recently attempts have been made to revive a symbolic form of hakhel. The Jewish diaspora ( he, תְּפוּצָה, təfūṣā) or exile (Hebrew: ; Yiddish: ) is the dispersion of Israelites or Jews out of their ancient ancestral homeland (the Land of Israel) and their subsequent settlement in other parts of the globe. Jewish State
In world politics, Jewish state is a characterization of Israel as the nation-state and sovereign homeland of the Jewish people. Modern Israel came into existence on 14 May 1948 as a polity to serve as the homeland for the Jewish people. It was also defined in its declaration of independence as a "Jewish state", a term that also appeared in the United Nations Partition Plan for British Palestine in 1947. Knesset
The Knesset ( he, הַכְּנֶסֶת ; "gathering" or "assembly") is the unicameral legislature of Israel. As the supreme state body, the Knesset is sovereign and thus has complete control of the entirety of the Israeli government (with the exception of checks and balances from the courts and local governments). The Knesset passes all laws, elects the president and prime minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government, among other things. Danny Yatom
Danny Yatom ( he, דני יתום, born 15 March 1945) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Labor. In 1996–1998, Yatom was head of the Mossad and between 1999 and 2001, he served as Prime Minister Ehud Barak's Chief Of Staff and security advisor. Biography Danny Yatom was born and raised in Netanya, his brother is Ehud Yatom. He studied mathematics, physics, and computer science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 1963 to 1996, he served in the Israel Defense Forces and worked in the Sayeret Matkal force, rising to the position of deputy commander, after which he moved to the Armor Corps and then became the head of the Israeli Central Command, ranked Major General. The Russian Jewish Congress is a non-profit charitable fund and Russian Jewish organization. It was established in 1996 by a group of Jewish businessmen, workers and religious figures with the goal of reviving Jewish life in Russia. It unites some of the influential and prosperous Jews in Russia, high-standing state officers, businessmen and actors of science and culture. The RJC supports existing communities and fosters the creation of new communities.
