Israeli Adjutant Corps
The Israeli Adjutant Corps is a support corps in the IDF Human Resources Directorate. Its current commander is Brigadier General Shlomi Sandrosi. The corps's designation is to assist IDF commanders in dealing with manpower, as well as soldiers' individual problems. It employs an adjutant officer (as well as assistants) in almost every unit, as well as a liaison officer in reserve units, who is responsible for the manpower aspect of the unit, as well as attending to the reservists' individual needs. History The corps was created on May 22, 1977, as one of three corps established as a conclusion to drawing lesson from the IDF's shortcomings in the Yom Kippur War. Chief Of General Staff (Israel)
The Chief of the General Staff, also known as the Commander-in-Chief of the Israel Defense Forces (, abbreviated ''Ramatkal''—), is the supreme commander and head of the Israel Defense Forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Aviv Kochavi. At any given time, the Chief of the General Staff is the only active officer holding the IDF's highest rank, ''rav aluf'' (), which is usually translated into English as lieutenant general, a three-star rank. Orna Barbivai
Orna Barbivai (; born 5 September 1962) is the current Minister of Economy, a retired major general in the Israel Defense Forces, and the former head of its Manpower Directorate. She was the first woman to be made Major-general (Aluf), the IDF's second highest rank. On 1 January 2019, she announced that she would enter politics and seek a Knesset seat on the list of Yesh Atid, which she won as part of the Blue and White slate. Her place in the Knesset was taken by Yasmin Fridman. Biography Growing up in a family of eight children in Afula, Israel, Barbivai is the daughter of Tzila, a Jewish immigrant from Iraq, and Eli Shochetman, a Jewish immigrant from Romania. She was drafted into the IDF in 1981, and has spent her entire career as an officer in the Manpower Directorate. Barbivai holds a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and Humanities from Ben Gurion University, and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Haifa University. Camp Ariel Sharon
Camp Ariel Sharon ( he, מחנה אריאל שרון, ''Mahane Ariel Sharon''), also called the City of Training Bases ( he, עיר הבה"דים, ''Ir HaBahadim''), is a complex of military bases being built in southern Israel, belonging to the Israel Defense Forces and named after the former Major General and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. In total, it is a NIS 50 billion project. Upon completion it will be the largest military base in the country, with the ability to house over 10,000 recruits in training. The base is located near Yeruham and next to the Negev Junction of roads 40 and 224. Bahad
Bahad ( he, בה"ד, short for ''Bsis Hadrakha'' ( he, בסיס הדרכה), ''lit.'' Training base) is a military training base in the Israel Defense Forces. Each Bahad deals with a certain field, such as law enforcement or logistics. Generally, each Bahad belongs to a certain corps and conducts all courses required by the corps in question. Some training bases also train the new recruits of the corps. The Israel Defense Forces also has several Bahads which don't belong to any particular corps and exist for the sole purpose of training new recruits. They are called recruit training bases, or ''Batars'' ( he, בט"ר, short for ''Bsis Tironut'' ( he, בסיס טירונות)). Many Bahads were located in Camp Yadin (Tzrifin), until the establishment of Camp Ariel Sharon in southern Israel. Bamahane
''Bamahane'' (also ''BaMahane'', he, במחנה, ''lit.'' in the base camp) was a Hebrew-language weekly magazine published by the Israel Defense Forces. It was first published in December 1934 by the Haganah and was published as a weekly until December 2016, when it was moved online until it was formally merged into the IDF's website in January 2020. History ''Bamahane'' started in December 1934 as an underground publication by the Tel Aviv office of the Haganah. Its chief editor, until 1947, was Ephraim Talmi. Notable writers, such as Nathan Alterman and Leah Goldberg, wrote for it. At the end of 1947 it became the Haganah's national publication. The GOC Army Headquarters ( he, מפקדת זרוע היבשה, ''Mifkedet Zro'a HaYabasha'', abbreviated Mazi), is a multi-corps command headquarters created in 1998, which amalgamates the ground forces of the Israel Defense Forces. The current size of the Israeli Ground Forces is estimated at 126,000 active soldiers and 400,000 soldiers in reserve. Mordechai Gur
Mordechai "Motta" Gur ( he, מרדכי "מוטה" גור, May 6, 1930 – July 16, 1995) was an Israeli politician and the 10th Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces. During the Six-Day War (1967), he commanded the brigade that penetrated the Old City of Jerusalem and broadcast the famous words, "The Temple Mount is in our hands!" ( he, הר הבית בידינו, ''Har HaBayit BeYadeinu''). As Chief of Staff, he had responsibility for planning and executing Operation Entebbe (1976) to free Jewish hostages in Uganda. Adjutant
Adjutant is a military appointment given to an officer who assists the commanding officer with unit administration, mostly the management of human resources in an army unit. The term is used in French-speaking armed forces as a non-commissioned officer rank similar to a staff sergeant or warrant officer but is not equivalent to the role or appointment of an adjutant. An adjutant general is commander of an army's administrative services.
