Bamahane
''Bamahane'' (also ''BaMahane'', he, במחנה, ''lit.'' in the base camp) was a Hebrew-language weekly magazine published by the Israel Defense Forces. It was first published in December 1934 by the Haganah and was published as a weekly until December 2016, when it was moved online until it was formally merged into the IDF's website in January 2020. History ''Bamahane'' started in December 1934 as an underground publication by the Tel Aviv office of the Haganah. Its chief editor, until 1947, was Ephraim Talmi. Notable writers, such as Nathan Alterman and Leah Goldberg, wrote for it. At the end of 1947 it became the Haganah's national publication. During that time period, Moshe Shamir became its chief editor. With the founding of the IDF, ''Bamahane'' became the soldiers' newspaper. Yair Lapid ( he, יָאִיר לַפִּיד, transliterated: , ; born 5 November 1963) is an Israeli politician and former journalist who has been serving as the 14th prime minister of Israel since 1 July 2022. Moshe Shamir
Moshe Shamir ( he, משה שמיר; 15 September 1921 – 20 August 2004) was an Israeli author, playwright, opinion writer, and public figure. He was the author of a play upon which Israeli film '' He Walked Through the Fields'' was based. Biography Shamir was born in Safed. He went to the Tel Nordau School and graduated from the Herzliya Hebrew High School in Tel Aviv. In the 1948 Arab-Israeli War he served in Palmach. He began his political career as a member of the movement Hashomer Hatzair, in which he filled a leadership role. He was one of the editors of their official newspaper ''Al Ha-Homa'' from 1939 to 1941. From 1944 to 1946 he was a member of kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek. Emmanuel Rosen ( he, עמנואל רוזן; born 6 August 1960) is an Israeli journalist, political analyst and media personality. He has worked in radio, television and print media. Following accusations of sexual assault he no longer works in any journalistic capacity. Media career Emmanuel Rosen began his journalist career working for ''Maariv LeNoar,'' a weekly magazine for young people. During his military service, he was a journalist for "Bamahane" the monthly magazine of the Israel Defense Forces. After the army he worked as an editor at Maariv, and became the newspaper's military commentator in 1987. Ram Oren (born March 8, 1936) is a popular Israeli author who has sold an unprecedented 1 million books in Hebrew. Oren was born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era. At age 15, he began his journalistic career as a messenger boy for ''Yediot Aharonot'', and was a correspondent for that newspaper from 1952 to 1955. From 1955 to 1958, he served in the Israel Defense Forces as a reporter for the IDF's weekly magazine ''Bamahane''. From 1958 to 1963, he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 1964 to 1994, he worked again for ''Yediot Aharonot''. He advanced to editorship of important sections in the newspaper, and was at one point its chief correspondent in New York City. Eitan Haber ( he, איתן הבר; 12 March 1940 – 7 October 2020) was an Israeli journalist and publicist, known for his writing on military and security issues, and for his longtime association with the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Biography Eitan Haber was born in Tel Aviv. He came from a Revisionist Zionist family. When he was eleven, he secretly joined the Betar youth movement but when his father found out, he was furious. Eli Mohar
Eli Mohar ( he, עלי מוהר; December 30, 1948 – November 30, 2006) was an Israeli songwriter and columnist. Biography Eli Mohar was born in Tel Aviv. His father was Yechiel Mohar. He was a member of HaMahanot HaOlim youth movement and studied at A.D. Gordon School before moving to Tichon Hadash. During his service in the IDF, he wrote for the military newspaper in addition to his paratrooper course training. Mohar was married twice. From his first marriage to the actress Irit Alter, he had one daughter, Sharon. Towards the end of his life, Mohar was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer yet he continued to work. He later died in Azor on November 30, 2006 one month before his 58th birthday. He was laid to rest at Holon Cemetery. Nisim Aloni
Nissim Aloni ( he, נסים אלוני, 24 August 1926 – 13 June 1998) was an Israeli playwright and translator. Biography Aloni was born Nissim Levi to poor Bulgarian Jewish immigrant parents in Mandate Palestine. His family lived in Florentin, a low-income neighborhood in south Tel Aviv, which later became an inspiration for his work. After graduating from high school, Aloni enlisted in the '' Notrut'', a Jewish militia operating as an auxiliary police force alongside the British. He wrote for the weekly ''BaMahane'', and fought in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Following his military service, he was appointed to the editorial board of the periodical ''B'Ayin'' and served as literary editor of ''Ashmoret''.
