The Olympic Committee of Israel (Hebrew: הוועד האולימפי בישראל) is the recognized National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Israel, and the governing body of Olympic sports in Israel. The OCI's headquarters is located at the National Sport Center – Tel Aviv. Yoav Ra'anan (; born 15 January 1928) is an Israeli former Olympic diver. He was born in Cairo, Egypt. Diving career Ra'anan competed for Israel at the 1952 Summer Olympics, at the age of 24, in Helsinki, coming in 9th in Men's Springboard and 24th in Men's Platform. It was Israel's first appearance in the Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in high diving at the 1953 Maccabiah Games. Ra'anan participated for Israel at the 1954 Asian Games in Manila, Philippines, in diving, winning the gold medal in 3 m springboard and the silver medal in 10 m platform. The 1956 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XVI Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, from 22 November to 8 December 1956, with the exception of the equestrian events, which were held in Stockholm, Sweden, in June 1956. These Games were the first to be staged in the Southern Hemisphere and Oceania, as well as the first to be held outside Europe and North America. Melbourne is the most southerly city ever to host the Olympics. Due to the Southern Hemisphere's seasons being different from those in the Northern Hemisphere, the 1956 Games did not take place at the usual time of year, because of the need to hold the events during the warmer weather of the host's spring/summer (which corresponds to the Northern Hemisphere's autumn/winter), resulting in the only summer games ever to be held in November and December. David Kushnir
David Kushnir (דוד קושניר; J21 June 1931 – 18 October 2020) was an Israeli Olympic long-jumper and track and field coach. He was born in Afula, Mandatory Palestine (now in Israel), and was Jewish. When Kushnir competed in the Olympics he was tall and weighed . Track and field career Kushnir won the gold medal in the broad jump (also known as the long jump) at the 1953 Maccabiah Games. He competed for Israel at the 1956 Summer Olympics, at the age of 25, in Melbourne, Australia in the Men's Long Jump, jumped a distance of 6.89 meters, but did not qualify for the finals, and came in 25th. Shoshana Ribner (also "Rivner", he, שושנה ריבנר; February 20, 1938 – 29 June 2007) was an Israeli Olympic swimmer. Biography Shoshana Ribner was born in Vienna, Austria. Her family immigrated to Israel when she was an infant. Ribner began competing as a swimmer at the age of 13. Her trainer, 24-year-old Nachum Buch, swam for Israel at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Ribner's son, Damon Fialkov, was Israel's 200-meter backstroke champion in 1981. Swimming career Ribner joined the Brit Maccabi Atid swimming club of Tel Aviv at the age of 13.
