Islamic Rule Party of Afghanistan (Hezb-e Iqtidar-e Islami-ye Afghanistan) is a political party in Afghanistan led by Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai. It was formed after a split from the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan just ahead of the 2005 elections. It was, however, denied registration. Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai
Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai ( ps, احمد شاه احمدزی; 30 March 1944 – 17 October 2021) was an Afghan politician. He served as acting prime minister of Afghanistan from 1995 to 1996. He was an ethnic Pashtun from the Ahmadzai sub-tribe. Biography Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai was born in Malang, a village in the Khaki Jabbar district of Kabul Province. He studied engineering at Kabul University and then worked in the agriculture ministry. In 1972 he received a scholarship to study in the United States, at Colorado State University. He received a master's degree in 1975 and became a professor at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia. Following the communist coup in 1978, Ahmadzai returned to Afghanistan to join the mujahideen. He was a close associate of Burhanuddin Rabbani, being deputy of his Jamiat-e Islami party, but then left and joined Abdul Rasul Sayyaf's Islamic Dawah Organisation of Afghanistan party in 1992, the year that communist rule ended. Islamic Movement of Afghanistan ( fa, حرکت اسلامی افغانستان, ''Harakat-e Islami-yi Afghanistan'') is a political party and former faction of the Afghan Northern Alliance (United Front) in Afghanistan. The movement is registered as a political party with the Ministry of Justice. From its foundation to 2005, the movement was led by Asif Mohseni. The movement emerged in 1978. Initially the movement was inspired by the Islamic revolutionary ideas of Ali Shari'ati, but over time this influence waned. During the 1980s, the movement was part of the 'Tehran Eight', an alliance of Shia mujahedin factions supported by Iran that fought against the PDPA government and Soviet troops. The movement joined the Hezb-e Wahdat, which was intended as a united Shia political front, but soon bolted out of it. During the Taliban years, it joined the 'Northern Alliance'.
