The Islamabad Jail Complex is a contemporary prison facility that is presently being built in Sector H-16, located in Islamabad, Pakistan. History The construction of the Islamabad Jail Complex has experienced significant delays spanning a decade, primarily due to a lack of available funds. However, in June 2022, former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued instructions to the relevant authorities to expedite the completion of this ongoing prison project in the upcoming fiscal year. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif (Urdu, Punjabi: , ; born 23 September 1951) is a Pakistani politician and businessman who is currently serving as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan, in office since 11 April 2022. Prisons in Pakistan and their administration, is a Provincial competency under the Constitution of Pakistan. Pakistan has the 23rd largest prison population in the world and the 5th largest death row population. Around 64.5% of prisoners are awaiting trial prisoners. 98.6% of prisoners are male, 1.7% are juveniles and 1.2% of those held are foreign citizens. As of 2018 Pakistan had an official occupancy capacity for 56,499 prisoners but held 80,145 prisoners. Types of prisons The most common and standard jail institutions are Central Jails, District Jails and Sub Jails.
