Isidore Lillian
Isidore Lillian (Yiddish language, Yiddish: איזידאָר ליליען ''Izidor Lilien'') (c. 1882 - 1960) was an actor, songwriter, playwright, and composer who was a leading figure in the New York Yiddish Theatre for the first half of the twentieth century. He wrote hundreds of songs for the theatre which were performed by such actors as Boris Thomashefsky, David Kessler (actor), David Kessler, and Jacob Pavlovich Adler, Jacob Adler, as well as by Lillian himself. Biography Early life Isidore Lillian was born into a poor family in Rzeszów, Galicia (Eastern Europe), Galicia, Austria-Hungary in the early 1880s. His exact birthdate is unclear; on many government documents he said September 14, 1883 but the Lexicon of Yiddish Theatre and other documents give the date as September 7, 1882. Joseph Brody (composer)
Joseph Brody ( yi, יוסף בּרױדי ) (1876/1877 – 1937) was an American Jewish composer who wrote prolifically for the Yiddish theatre as well as liturgical Jewish works. He taught George Gershwin and was a friend of Yossele Rosenblatt. His daughter, Estelle Brody, was an actress. Biography Early life Brody was probably born on March 12, 1877, based upon his gravestone, in Lyakhavichy, Minsk Governorate, in the Russian Empire, although the Lexicon of Yiddish Theatre gives the date as February 12, and in own his naturalization application he stated his birthday was January 22, 1876. His father, Harris Brody, was a tailor and sent Joseph to a Cheder for his early education. Mount Hebron is a Jewish cemetery located in Flushing, Queens, New York City. It was founded in 1903 as the Jewish section of Cedar Grove Cemetery, and occupies the vast majority of the grounds at Cedar Grove. The cemetery is on the former Spring Hill estate of colonial governor Cadwallader Colden. Mount Hebron is arranged in blocks, which are then split up into sections or society grounds. Sections were originally sold mainly to families or Jewish community groups such as landsmanshaftn, mutual aid societies, and burial societies. For instance, Mount Hebron is known for having a section reserved for people who worked in New York City's Yiddish theater industry. Louis Kramer
Louis C. Kramer (July 25, 1848 - August 18, 1922) was a professional baseball executive who served as the president of the American Association in 1891. Career Kramer, a lawyer, was one of the initial financial backers of the Cincinnati Red Stockings American Association club in 1881. He and club president Aaron S. Stern sold their shares to partner George Herancourt after the 1884 season. Kramer would remain a member of the clubs' board of directors. He replaced Allen W.
