Ishaya Mark Aku
Ishaya Mark Aku (died 4th May 2002) was a Nigerian Minister of Sports in the first cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He died in a plane crash in Northern Nigeria. Background Aku was born in Bassa local government area of Plateau State to the late paramount ruler of the Rukuba chiefdom and qualified as a water engineer. He entered the Plateau State civil service, where he held various positions, and was a permanent secretary when appointed Sports Minister. His predecessor as Sports Minister, Damishi Sango, was his kinsman. Sports Minister Aku was appointed Sports Minister in February 2001. He reorganized the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to become a semi-independent body that relied less on government funding. Sango Damishi
Hon Damishi Tonson Sango (born 1 January 1950) was appointed Nigerian Minister of Sports in the first cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo, holding office between June 1999 and January 2001. He was a challenger to become the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Plateau State in 1999 and 2007, and ran for Plateau State governor on the Alliance for Democracy (AD) platform in 2003. Early life and career Damishi Sango was born on 1 January 1950 in Ganawuri, in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State and belongs to the Aten minority ethnic group. He obtained a grade II teacher's certificate in 1973 and began working as an elementary school teacher, later becoming headmaster. Stephen Ibn Akiga (or Steve Akiga) (died 6 September 2004) was Nigerian Minister of Industry, then Minister of Police Affairs and finally Minister of Sports in the first cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo dismissed his cabinet on 30 January 2001. On 9 February Stephen Akiga moved from the Ministry of Industry to Police Affairs.
