Isaura Morais
Isaura Morais (born 1966) is a Portuguese politician. A member of the centre-right Social Democratic Party (PSD), Morais was elected to the Assembly of the Republic in 2019 as a representative of the Santarém constituency and re-elected in January 2022. Early life and education Isaura Maria Elias Crisóstomo Bernardino Morais was born on 19 June 1966 in Rio Maior in Portugal. Her parents were farmers. She graduated in human resources management. Career Morais was married to António José Bernardino Morais, an engineer, who died of leukemia in 1999. They had one daughter. After his death, she went to night school to do post-graduate studies in marketing management and began her professional life in the field of graphic arts. Her husband had been a PSD councillor for the municipality of Rio Maior and in 2001 she also decided to join the party and was elected president of the Rio Maior parish council. The District of Santarém ( pt, Distrito de Santarém ) is a district of Portugal, located in Portugal's ''Centro Region''. The district capital is the city of Santarém. The district is the 3rd largest in Portugal, with an area of , and a population of 475,344 inhabitants, giving it a population density of 70 people per sq. kilometer (180 people per sq. mile). Carlos Lopes
Carlos Alberto de Sousa Lopes, GCIH (, born 18 February 1947) is a Portuguese former long-distance runner. He won the marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, becoming Portugal's first Olympic gold medalist and setting an Olympic record for the event. In 1985, Lopes set the marathon world record at 2:07:12 at the Rotterdam Marathon. Early life Lopes was born in Vildemoinhos, near Viseu, Portugal. He worked as a stonecutter's helper. Lopes wanted to play football at his local club, but his father opposed this, so he turned to other forms of athletics. In 1967 he was invited to join the athletics team of Sporting Clube de Portugal, and remained there until the end of his career in 1985. Pedro Couceiro (born 23 March 1970) is a former Portuguese racing driver. In the late 1970s Couceiro became better known as a child singer and at 12 years old he started his career in Karting. Early years Couceiro was born in Angola and remained there until 1974, when his parents moved to Portugal. Couceiro followed in the footsteps of his older brother Nuno in Karting and, helped by the funds that he earned with his successes as a singer, he bought his first Kart and started racing. Rosa Maria Correia dos Santos Mota, GCIH, GCM (; born 29 June 1958) is a Portuguese former marathon runner, one of her country's foremost athletes, being the first sportswoman from Portugal to win Olympic gold. Mota was the first woman to win multiple Olympic marathon medals as well as being the only woman to be the reigning European, World, and Olympic champion at the same time. Early legislative elections were held on 30 January 2022 in Portugal to elect members of the Assembly of the Republic to the 15th Legislature of the Third Portuguese Republic. All 230 seats to the Assembly of the Republic were up for election. On 27 October 2021, the budget proposed by the Socialist minority government was rejected by the Assembly of the Republic. The Left Bloc (BE) and the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), both of whom had previously supported the government, joined the centre-right to right-wing opposition parties and rejected the budget. On 4 November 2021, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the president of Portugal, announced a snap election to be held on 30 January 2022. António Luís Santos da Costa GCIH (; born 17 July 1961) is a Portuguese lawyer and politician serving as the 119th and current prime minister of Portugal since 26 November 2015, presiding over the XXI (2015–2019), XXII (2019–2022) and XXIII Constitutional Governments (2022–present). 2019 Portuguese Legislative Election
The 2019 Portuguese legislative election was held on 6 October 2019. All 230 seats to the Assembly of the Republic were contested. In a campaign dominated by the Tancos airbase robbery (in which former Defense Minister Azeredo Lopes (2015–2018) was accused of trying to cover-up the finding of the stolen weapons in the robbery), but also with the good economic situation in Portugal, the Socialist Party (PS) won the elections with 36% of the votes and 108 seats, a gain of 22 compared with 2015. The PS won the big districts of Porto and Lisbon, although Porto was closer than expected, and was able to gain districts from the PSD, like Aveiro and Viana do Castelo, by razor thin margins. The PS won the city of Lisbon, however with a smaller share of the vote compared with 2015, 33% vs 35%, and, surprisingly, lost the city of Porto to the PSD. Portuguese Socialist Party
The Portuguese Socialist Party ( pt, Partido Socialista Português) was a political party in Portugal. The party was founded in 1875. During its initial phase the party was heavily influenced by Proudhonism, and rejected revolutionary Marxism. The party suffered constant factional struggles. In 1919 the leftwing of the party broke away (that group would merge with anarcho-syndicalists to form the Portuguese Maximalist Federation, which became the Portuguese Communist Party). In general the Socialist Party lacked mass support, the trade union movement was led by anarchists and was not affiliated with the socialist International Federation of Trade Unions. The party claimed a membership of 2,500 as of 1925. It published the biweekly ''Heraldo''. It had an educational and workers' sport organization, with a membership of 3,000.
