Iron Springs (Cochise County, Arizona)
Iron Springs is the historical name of a natural spring in the Whetstone Mountains of southeastern Arizona. It is famous for being the site of a confrontation between Wyatt Earp and William "Curly Bill" Brocius on March 24, 1882, which resulted in Brocius' death. Whetstone Mountains
The Whetstone Mountains are a range of mountains in Cochise County, Arizona, Cochise County, southeastern Arizona. The Opata people, Opata called the mountains ''Babocomari'', a name still attached to the nearby Babocomari River. The Spanish continued the name as ''Sierra del Babocomari''. American Colonel Benjamin Bonneville reporting on an inspection tour of the area in May 1859, gave the mountains their current name, because they contain a deposit of a hard fine-grained rock named Novaculite, that could be used as Sharpening stone, whetstones to sharpen cutlery and tools. Geography The range is located south of Interstate 10, between the Santa Rita Mountains to the west, and the Dragoon Mountains to the east. Wyatt Earp

William Brocius
William "Curly Bill" Brocius (''circa'' 1845 – March 24, 1882), was an American gunslinger, rustler, and member of the Cowboy outlaw gang in the Cochise County area of the Arizona Territory during the late 1870s and early 1880s. His name is likely an alias or nickname, and some evidence links him to another outlaw named William "Curly Bill" Bresnaham, who was convicted of an 1878 attempted robbery and murder in El Paso, Texas. Brocius had a number of conflicts with the lawmen of the Earp family, and he was named as one of the men who participated in Morgan Earp's assassination. Deputy U.S. Marshal Wyatt Earp and a group of deputies including his brother Warren Earp pursued those they believed responsible for Morgan's death. Earp Vendetta Ride
The Earp Vendetta Ride was a deadly search by a federal posse led by Deputy U.S. Marshal Wyatt Earp for a loose confederation of outlaw "Cowboys" they believed had ambushed his brothers Virgil and Morgan Earp, maiming the former and killing the latter. The two Earp brothers had been attacked in retaliation for the deaths of three Cowboys in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881. From March 20 to April 15, 1882, the federal posse searched southeast Cochise County, Arizona Territory for the men they believed were responsible for the attacks on Virgil and Morgan. Several suspects had been identified and were charged, but were soon released by the court, owing in some cases to legal technicalities and in others to the strength of alibis provided by the Cowboy gang.
