Irma Blank
Irma Blank (1934 – 14 April 2023) was a German-born Italian artist. Her work, based on printed text that she transcribed in ink, has been described as "drawing languages without words" and thus "a form of communication beyond specific language", including sounds. Life and work Blank was born in Celle, Lower Saxony. In 1955, age 20 and inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Italian Journey, she traveled to Syracuse, Sicily. Having made the decision to settle in Italy for good, Blank started working as a high school teacher, focusing on her own art at night. In 1973 Blank moved to Milan, where she met with the concrete poetry artists and introduced language into her prints and paintings. In the 1970s she initiated a long-standing collaboration with fellow artist Mirella Bentivoglio. Celle
Celle () is a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser, and has a population of about 71,000. São Paulo Art Biennial
The São Paulo Art Biennial ( Portuguese: ''Bienal de São Paulo'') was founded in 1951 and has been held every two years since. It is the second oldest art biennial in the world after the Venice Biennale (in existence since 1895), which serves as its role model. History The Biennial was founded by the Italian-Brazilian industrialist Ciccillo Matarazzo (1898–1977). Since 1957, the São Paulo Biennial has been held in the Ciccillo Matarazzo pavilion in the Parque do Ibirapuera. Silvie Defraoui is a visual artist born in St. Gallen in 1935. Biography Silvie Defraoui spent her childhood in St. Gallen and in Grisons. She first studied painting at the l’école des Beaux-Arts d’Alger and later ceramics at the l’école des Arts décoratifs de Genève. Between 1975 and 1994 she worked together with Chérif Defraoui (Geneva 1932–1994). Museum Kunstpalast
The Kunstpalast, formerly Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf is an art museum in Düsseldorf. History The roots of the museum go back around 300 years. In 1932, the collection of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Academy of Art) was housed in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf. This included the exhibits given by the popular regent Jan Wellem, Duke of Palatinate, and his wife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, and some rich citizens of Düsseldorf. The academy had been founded in 1710, its collection expanded in the 19th century by the collection of Lambert Krahe. The Düsseldorfer Gallerieverein, founded in the 19th century, collected many drawings of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule, later given to that collection.
