Irina Deleanu (born November 12, 1975) is a former individual rhythmic gymnast from Romania. Biography In the 1992 World Championships she won the bronze medal in rope. She retired from the sport in 1993. An annual Rhythmic Gymnastics competition held in Bucharest is named after her, ''The Irina Deleanu Cup''. She is currently the president of the Romanian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation. Career Trikomiti At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, she burst on to the scene when she won two gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. Notably, her final and second gold medal winning performance of the event had a difficulty rating of 8.85, an artistic skills rating of 8.5, and an execution rating of 8.5, earning her a total score of 25.8 and a standing ovation from the crowd. Chrystalleni narrowly missed the Gold in the all round performance when she dropped the ball. The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for the sport of rhythmic gymnastics. The tournament is promoted and organized by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the three tournaments in rhythmic gymnastics officially organized by FIG, as well as the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games (in collaboration with the IOC and the federation of the country organising the Games). Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon. The sport combines elements of gymnastics, dance and calisthenics; gymnasts must be strong, flexible, agile, dexterous and coordinated.
