Aforia Crebristriata
''Aforia crebristriata'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cochlespiridae. It is also considered as the type species of the genus ''Dallaforia'' through its synonym ''Irenosyrinx crebristriata'' Dall, 1908 Description The length of the shell attains 48 mm, its diameter 16.5 mm. (Original description) The shell is of moderate size. It is white, covered with a pale yellow periostracum. The acute spire is a little shorter than the aperture. The six whorls, exclusive of the (lost) nucleus, are rounded. The; suture is very distinct. There is no axial sculpture, except incremental lines, unless on the (eroded) apical whorls. The siphonal fasciole is wide, extending from the suture to an obscure ridge which forms the shoulder of the whorl just behind the periphery. On the fasciole are six or seven smooth rounded subequal spiral threads with equal or wider interspaces, more crowded anteriorly. Beyond the shoulder are nine similar but coars ...

''Aforia hypomela'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Cochlespiridae.Gofas, S. (2016). Aforia hypomela (Dall, 1889). In: MolluscaBase (2016). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=747547 on 2016-07-09 Description The length of the shell attains 59 mm. (Original description) The thin shell has a fusiform shape. Its color is white with a very thin straw-colored epidermis. The 1½ whorls in the protoconch are white and vitreous, polished, nearly smooth with faint spiral lines and lines of growth. The seven whorls of the teleoconch are spirally sculptured with a moderate angulation just behind the periphery of the body whorl, which becomes sharper and peripheral on the earlier whorls. In front of this, the whorls are ornamented with numerous rounded threads, separated by much wider somewhat channelled interspaces. On the upper whorls there are 3-6 of these threads, on the bo ...

Cochlespiridae
Cochlespiridae is a Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic family (biology), family of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Conoidea. This family is not well differentiated morphologically, and there is poor congruence between the molecular and shell characters. Its limits are uncertain. Even the contents of most of the genera are in need of revision. The family is composed of some genera that used to belong to the subfamily Cochlespirinae, in the family Turridae. This family has no subfamilies. General characteristics This family consists of moderately sized shells, usually between 20 and 30 mm, but in ''Nihonia maxima'' the length of shell can reach 128 mm. The shell of ''Aforia magnifica'' even reaches 150 mm. The shell is turriculated and fusiform with a long, sharp Spire (mollusc), spire. Axial Sculpture (mollusc), sculpture is absent or feebly developed. The Aperture (mollusc), aperture is ovate. The Columella (gastropod), columellar mar ...

Aforia Kincaidi
''Aforia kincaidi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cochlespiridae. Description The height of the shell attains 29 mm, its diameter 13 mm. (Original description) The waxen white shell is of moderate size and has a fusiform shape. The spire is acute. The siphonal canal is elongated. The protoconch consists of two smooth bulbous whorls with five subsequent whorls. The axial sculpture shows only faint incremental lines. The spiral sculpture includes a very prominent thin sharp peripheral keel and fine spiral striae with wider interspaces, over most of the surface. The interspaces become more rounded and coarser on the base. The entire space between the keel and the preceding suture may be said to form the anal fasciole, the wide arcuate sulcus being situated a little way in front of the suture. The base of the shell is neatly rounded and contracted at the beginning of the siphonal canal. The outer lip is thin, sharp and much produced ...

Aforia Goodei
''Aforia goodei'', common name Goode's turrid, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids. Description The length of the shell varies between 50 mm and 90 mm. (Original description) The shell is large and thin. Its color is white, with a tinge of pale orange in the throat and on the columella. It contains eight (or more) whorls, the protoconch wanting in the specimens. The surface is generally slightly eroded, glistening when perfect. The spiral sculpture below the periphery consists of narrow shallow grooves separating wider, half obsolete threads. At the periphery is an obtuse carina which is sharper on the early whorls. Behind this is a wide shallow sulcus, behind which the whorl rounds to the distinct but unchannelled suture. On the upper or posterior part of the whorl the fine spirals are perceptible but fainter than in front of the periphery. The transverse sculpture consists only of incremental lines. The aperture ...
